10 Commandments Wall Banner!

Teaching young children about the 10 commandments can be a little overwhelming. For instance take  Exodus 20:4-6 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God,punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” this can be a lot for a young child to take in. Regardless, I feel that the 10 commandments is very important to teach our children! It’s all in the approach right?! I came up with the Ten Commandments Wall Banner

cover

{DOWNLOAD} Ten Commandments Wall Banner

My banner consists of 10 full-sized pages {of course:)} perfect to add to the wall in your classroom! The best part…I think…is that each Commandment is written in a way for children to easily understand** All pages are made with bright fun colors, sure to engage any child! If you are familiar with my printables you know that I ALWAYS encourage printing on cardstock and laminating to prolong the life of each printable {this way they can be printed once and used for all your children!!}

**DISCLAIMER My 10 Commandments Wall Banner is NOT to be used as the only learning tool! Please use the banner to accompany the Reading out of Exodus 20 – as these printables are paraphrased for children out of scripture!

Read It, Spell It, Write It Printable

My oldest son really likes games and puzzles…because of this I really wanted something for reading and writing that is really fun {reading and writing are NOT his favorite subjects} I started searching and honestly I found a few things I liked…but nothing I loved that I was willing to pay for. Instead of being discouraged…I created! Here is what I came up with…

RSWPrintable

Read It, Spell It, Write It DOWNLOAD

What you get with this printable set:

“Game Boards”

gameboards

There are 6 different colors to print!  {You can print one or all} I decided to make them in more than one color – this way each child can have their very own!

I would HIGHLY recommend printing these game boards on cardstock and then getting them laminated so that they will last {Wet Erase markers will work awesome on these! Everything will stay in place until you wipe it with a damp wipe! I found that the easy wipe off ones end up making a mess and made my son really annoyed!}

“Word Panels”

blankwordpanels

This comes with 16 different blank panels – each has a different animal on it. I decided to make these blank so that this printable set can span all ages! How this works: Mama picks a word {at the childs level of course :)} and writes it on the panel {This goes in the “Read it” area on the game board} Again I would recommend printing on cardstock and laminating after cutting each panel out. The same wet erase markers will be great!

“Letter Tiles”

lettertiles

3 pages with Letters A-Z in both upper and lower case. I would suggest printing 3-4 of each page so that you have multiples of each letter to spell words like “error” “letter” ect. Just like before…print on cardstock and laminating after cutting each letter tile out.

Fun Tip:

Adding velcro will keep every thing in place {I like this Velcro…cheap but effective!}

I REALLY hope you enjoy this as much as we have! If you have any questions please feel free to email me {thelifeinbloom@gmail.com}

Ummm…Britni, where are you?

Over the last week my inbox has been filled with “Is everything ok?” & “where are you?” messages…first of all, I love you guys! Thank you so much for checking on me! I have had quite the week….

Late last week I had noticed that my very back upper molar was really bothering me, it was giving be a headache from the pain and it had started to become very sensitive to both hot and cold. My husband immediately called our dentist and scheduled me an appointment for this past Wednesday! I was so excited thinking I would be getting rid of this pain. On Tuesday night I almost couldn’t deal with how bad it hurt. At my appointment on Wednesday I was not at all surprised to find out that yes, it was a cavity…ugh. my dentist told me that at some point my tooth had cracked down the center and over time this cavity had built. They decided to fill it right there. After they were done I felt great and left the office….after about 15 minutes the pain meds had worn off and I could tell!!! When we got home I immediately took some Tylenol thinking I was just being extra sensitive. After 2 Tylenol, 2 ibuprofen {with ZERO relief}, and lots of tears, we called the dentist. He said “Get in here NOW” we live about 15 minutes from the office, but it felt like hours. You know when you’re in labor and they ask “On a scale of 1-10 what’s you pain” my mouth pain was at a 12!! I was crying in pain {keep in mind I have a VERY high threshold for pain} As soon as I walked in the office they took me back and numbed me…OH SWEET RELIEF!! So, where was all this pain coming from? It turned out that the cavity he filled was so deep and so horrible that during the filling I had gotten EXTREME nerve damage. We talked about the options: he could take the filling out and re-fill it with a nerve friendly filling {UGH NOOOOOO!!} I could get a route canal, or pull it…it may sound extreme but I decided to have him pull it. Thank the Lord I did! After getting to tooth out he {my dentist} was stunned, the tooth was cracked in the route and it was so damaged…no route canal would have been able to fix that bad boy! The nerve damage was causing the entire left side of my mouth pain, once that tooth was out I could feel my mouth relax…it was really something.

How am I today? Other than sore gums I’m doing great – on a scale from 1-10…maybe 1! I have an antibiotic and a pain reliever {I have only taken it twice not so much for pain but the aching in my gums} I can eat and talk…so I’m good 😉

Not exactly how I planned to spend my wednesday…but so happy with how things turned out!

Now, I’m looking forward to the Awesomeness I have planned for next week!!

The Balancing Act…

20130110-150137.jpg

With family, kids, homeschooling, Church, and countless other activities we do as mamas it is easy to lose track of us…who we are. How often do you look back at your day and think “hmm I didn’t do one thing on MY to do list” yeah…I know it happens to me all the time too. I cannot tell you how many times after finishing the, schooling, the naps, the cleaning, the re-cleaning ect. I realize that I haven’t even taken a shower. I for one do not want to live like this, I want to take a shower…at least most days. I want to have a thriving relationship with my heavenly Father, I want more than this! How do we as moms find the balance? Here are a few things that work for me!

Get up Early:
I love getting up early! I love when the only noise I can hear is the breathing of my littles! Ideally I would live to be up at least 1.5/2 hours before the kids, but often they hear me and they want to get up too so I usually get 1 hour of time to my self, to relax, to de-stress, to dare I say it…shower!! That one hour gives me the ability to tackle the day, I’m happier and our days are so wonderful! There is nothing worse than a stressed mama to send the day down the drain!

Spend time in the Word:
When I get up early I devote at least 30 minutes reading the bible! I use the YouVersion app and journal passages that the Lord is showing me! After I have finished my reading (usually 4-6 chapters, I pray over my husband, my kids, our home! I cannot tell you what this does in me, in my heart. I am filled with peace, joy and love!

Make a date with a girlfriend:
How many moms really get to sit a visit with their friends and I mean outside of play dates? I think as moms we need that time…we need to be able to share with our friends, to encourage and be encouraged! Make a coffee date, or a shopping date, or how about a gym date!! I think I’ll make a gym date with my BFF!!

Take time to be alone {without feeling guilty}:
I know that the common thought is “I’ll have me time when the kids are in bed” but really let’s be honest here…Every time I plan to paint my nails or take a bath or blog, somebody can’t get to bed or is sick or…well you know what I mean! Not to mention what about The Hubby? When does time with him fit in? So what’s the answer…well for me, my sweet, amazing, gorgeous husband takes the kids shopping or outside to sled or even wrestle in the family room (that’s the kids favorite…nothing like beating up daddy) my hubby gauges what they are going to do based on the type of day I have told him I’ve had…man I love him! Not only does this bless me more than I can express, but the kids get daddy all to themselves and daddy gets to be the hero!

Pop in some headphones:
Try having quite time together (you know that quite time that you tend to need around hmmm 1:00-3:00) Usually when I get to the point where I need a break the kids are needing one too! When that time rolls around we on a DVD and grab some blankets and cuddle on the couch…they settle in to watch their movie and I pop in my headphone and open my YouVersion app on my iPad or iPhone! What I love about this app is that it has audio! So while the kids are engrossed in the movie I am 100% engrossed in my reading! The best part…I am cuddling with my kiddos!! Sometimes quite time even turns into the twins falling asleep! I love those moments!

Go on a date:
Seriously…a real date! Like the kind you get dressed in a dress for…the kind you do beautiful makeup for (not the everyday routine) the kind of date that you go to a restaurant and sit down! After our first son was born we didn’t want to have a babysitter so we did everything together or we would have our in-home date when he was sleeping. Then the twins came along, now there were three little ones we didn’t want to leave. For our 9th wedding anniversary we went on our first date since 2004…about 6 years! I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful it was!! We sat in a restaurant at a table without booster seats, we talked, we had a great time! It’s been two years and I can’t tell you how many dates we’ve gone on! The catalyst? My mom! She wanted us to experience time alone together without the kids…she knew just how badly we needed it! She is absolutely amazing! I can call her on friday morning and tell her we just really need some time, her response is always 100% of the time “ok! I’ll be there when I get off work, should I pick up something for dinner!” I am blessed!

Our School Day

anchoracademy_edited-2

Late last week I received an email from a new homeshool mom asking “what does your typical school day look like” I responded and headed off to bed. The next morning my inbox was filled with emails from other homeschool moms asking similar questions. Over the last week a few moms have reached out and asked if I would “PLEASE” write a post on the following: Our Typical Day, Our Curriculum, Our School Room and last but not least, Our School Day! I was thrilled! Here is my first installment: Our Typical day…

ourschoolday

For most days this is typical…but in all honesty there are days when our school day flows into the 4 o’clock hour {not my favorite days} these are usually the days following an extra long weekend, vacation, holidays, or when the kids are not feeling well. Then there are the days when we are done with school by lunch! Bible study…DONE, Math, Reading, Spelling, Writing….ALL DONE, Science & History…DONE!!! Ahhhh those days are so wonderful and not terribly often in our home, maybe 4-6 times a month! Please note: our kiddos have breaks during the “green” school day! Sometimes a kids needs a break 😉

Notice “Family Time” we are VERY family focused in our home. My husband {The Business Analyst} works from home most days a week so “family time” takes place if a subject is finished early or honestly if we just feel like our kiddos need it! Family Time is playing a board game, going for a walk, playing Mario Kart on the wii or all of the above…or left!

So there it is a VERY basic schedule. It works for us!
