Murder on Lot B, a STARFIRE COZY MYSTERY: By London Lovett

Profile avatar for London LovettI know this will come as no surprise but I LOVE London Lovett books! A few months ago I shared my love for the Port Danby series {you can check that out HERE if you would like} Today I’m sharing my love for another one of London’s series called Starfire!

I absolutely ADORE this series, era and characters! Starfire takes place in the 1920’s {my all time favorite decade…I SO badly wish the 20s style would come back in style or easily available!}

Poppy Starfire and her brother Jasper are waiting on their next big adventure to walk in the front door of Starfire Detective Agency, yep Poppy is a private detective!

Los Angeles in 1923, Poppy has a new house in a new neighborhood tasting independence for the first time, she’s taking over the family detective agency with her young brother side kick Jasper! Everything is fantastic…except a case to investigate…until Anna walks through the door. Roger, Anna’s Hollywood stuntman brother has recently died in a extremely publicized accident. Was it really an accident or is there something far more nefarious going on? Poppy is on the case! With all kinds of twists and turns this book will no doubt have you hooked from the first page!

I love that London always writes about strong women who can take care of themselves and aren’t afraid! I really appreciate this since it is very much my personality!

I have recommended all these books to pretty much every person I come in contact with! Seriously, I pretty much inundated my best friend with every single detail about each of LL series!

STARFIRE COZY MYSTERY SERIES:

But when one of the farm visitors is found strangled to death, the fun-filled visit takes a grim turn.

PORT DANBY COZY MYSTERY SERIES:

Crocuses+and+Crime+Cover (3)

1. Marigolds and Murder

Lacey ‘Pink’ Pinkerton has left behind a six figure job and her reputation as the million dollar nose—a nickname her super sense of smell earned her within the perfume industry. With her pet crow Kingston and a tabby cat named Nevermore, she is settling right into her new life in the small coastal town of Port Danby.

2. Carnations and Chaos

Lacey ‘Pink’ Pinkerton, the local flower shop owner, is thrilled to supply colorful flower arrangements for the Third Annual Food Fair being held in the Port Danby town square. But when one of the well-known but not so well-loved bloggers is found dead in her motel room, Lacey steps in to help Detective James Briggs solve the case. (Whether he likes it or not.)

3. Mistletoe and Mayhem

Port Danby is preparing for the annual Harbor Holiday Lights Flotilla, and Lacey ‘Pink’ Pinkerton is anxious to see the colorful boats light up Pickford Beach. But the festive spirits of the town are dampened when one of the boat owners is strangled to death. Lacey enthusiastically volunteers to help Detective Briggs sniff out the clues and track down the killer. Once again, she finds herself nose deep in a murder mystery.

4. Roses and Revenge

When the Georgio’s Perfume crew, including her ex-fiancé Jacob, show up in Port Danby for a photo shoot, Lacey is taken by surprise. But their unexpected arrival is nothing compared to the shock of what happens next. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Lacey ‘Pink’ Pinkerton finds herself caught up in another unexpected murder mystery.

5. Tulips and Trouble

Lacey Pinkerton is busy getting ready for spring at Pink’s Flowers and at the same time Port Danby is bustling with activity as it prepares for its annual flea market in the town square. In the midst of it all, a talented group of artists has shown up with their easels to paint pictures of the Pickford Lighthouse. When one of the artists turns up missing and then dead, Lacey works alongside of her favorite detective, James Briggs, to solve the murder. What she doesn’t expect is to end up on the murderer’s short list of enemies.

6. Dahlias and Death

Lacey Pinkerton and the town of Port Danby are preparing for the annual Fourth of July celebration at Pickford Marina. Lacey’s parents are coming to stay for the week. Lacey and her friends at the Port Danby Garden Club are excited to set up a fundraising booth at the festivities. But the patriotic celebration is cut short when one of the club members is found dead. While her trusted and handsome partner Detective Briggs is dealing with a personal issue, the unexpected return of his ex-wife, Lacey works hard to tamp down the disappointment and find the killer.

7. Peonies and Poison

Port Danby is in the middle of a scorching summer heat wave. Looking for relief from the sweltering temperatures, Lacey Pinkerton invites her newly minted boyfriend, Detective James Briggs, out for vintage movie night at the Mayfield Four Theater. It promises to be a fun evening filled with Humphrey Bogart, frosty lemon-lime drinks and, most of all, air-conditioning. But when the theater owner is found dead in his office, the classic movie date night turns into a murder investigation where the motives are plenty and the poison is suspiciously sweet.

8. Hyacinths and Homicide

After a busy day providing bouquets and pumpkins for a ten year high school reunion at the posh Chesterton Regency Hotel, Lacey Pinkerton is thrilled to have a nice romantic dinner with her boyfriend, Detective James Briggs. But when the reunion’s class bully is thrown from the hotel balcony, Briggs is called to duty. Lacey soon finds herself involved in a complicated murder investigation where the evidence points in every direction and the victim has more than his share of enemies.

9. Crocuses and Crime

The new year is off to a smooth start. Pink’s Flowers is doing well and Lacey is growing even closer to her wonderful boyfriend, Detective James Briggs. But when a local man is killed, one of Lacey’s dearest friends is implicated in the murder. Briggs has asked her to step away from the case but Lacey is determined to find the real killer. Will her meddling cause irreparable damage to their relationship? Lacey must risk everything, including her heart, to find the truth.

10. Sunflowers and Sabotage

Lacey “Pink” Pinkerton is in the middle of a bustling summer in Port Danby. Les and Elsie, her neighboring shop owners are up to their usual sibling rivalry antics. Lola’s parents make a rare stop in town, causing a rift between Lacey’s best friend, Lola, and her shop assistant, Ryder. In the midst of it all, Lacey is starkly reminded that her boyfriend, Detective James Briggs, has a dangerous job. And of course, summer in Port Danby wouldn’t be complete without a murder.

PORT DANBY COZY MYSTERY SERIES by London Lovett

Profile avatar for London LovettI LOVE to read, I average between 50-100 novels per year, so when my birthday came along {this past spring} it was no surprise that my husband got me a Barnes and Noble gift card…so did my kids…as well as my mom! I was excited to peruse my favorite category “Cozy Mysteries and Armature Sleuths” As I scrolled I came across some very lovely covers {yes I am drawn to covers of books first then I read the description, I’m sure I am not the only one}

One cover caught my eye and I was immediately interested in it because of the gorgeous cover, then I read the title “Marigolds and Murder” by London Lovett! Yes, it was absolutely perfect, I bought right than and there, I just knew I’d love it…like when you find the right wedding dress and it just clicks! {I got the ebook, sadly no one sells the paper back near me and I wanted to start reading it asap!}

It was Friday, my husband and kids were playing Fortnite so I knew I had some serious “me” time on my hands, which means reading! I read Marigolds and Murder in a little over one evening {its about 180 pages on my Surface Pro using the Nook app} I LOVED it! In my excitement of downloading it I didn’t even think to see if it was in a series…OMG it is…and at the time there were EIGHT more books in the series {book 10 came out on June 17th} I was ecstatic and bought the other eight books, plus everything else by the lovely London Lovett, which are Port Danby, Firefly Junction and Starfire series.

Books I purchased:

  • Books 1-9 in the Port Danby series {book 10 came out this June}
  • Books 1-4 in the Firefly Junction series {book 5 came out in early April}
  • Book 1 in the Starfire series {book 2 came out in early May}

I ended up purchasing all the books in ebook form but I love them so much I plan to get them all on paper back so I can always have one or two with me!

I went back and forth about how in depth I wanted to get about this series, I don’t want to give anything away so I decided make it a skim off the top summery of the entire series as a whole. I don’t ruin the awesomeness of this series and the characters, so here goes…

The Port Danby series takes place in the sweetest little costal town called Port Danby, where tourists visit and I want to live! Lacey Pinkerton or Pink to her friends, has recently moved to Port Danby and is starting a new life in a new place! She’s the proud owner of a flower shop, a crow that’s sure he’s not a bird and a sweet kitty, plus she has an unbelieve sense of smell! Port Danby is chalked full of people you are sure to love, from the hunky detective, to the dueling twins, the handsome neighbor, the quirky best friend and the diner that will undoubtedly make you crave Chili and Cornbread. If that wasn’t perfect enough my girl Pink finds herself in all kinds of sticky situations {although I’m confident she would refer to it more of a “right place at the right time” situation} and an unplanned partnership with the above mentioned hunky detective {Briggs}, make these books an absolute page turners. Oh and I can’t forget the mystery within the mystery…what really happened 100 years ago in that mansion on the hill?

I HIGHLY recommend all the books in the Port Danby series!

London Lovett has quickly become one of my favorite if not favorite authors!

See the source image

Guess what?!? Right now Marigolds and Murder {book one in the Port Danby series} is currently FREE on Barnes and Noble for Nook {I use the app}

I focused on the Port Danby series today but I plan to have a Firefly Junction post and a Starfire post in the next week or so!

A Love Letter Life {book review}

IMG_8789

Over 2 million people watched as Jeremy and Audrey married on TLC’s hit show Little People, Big World. I have to be honest I have never seen an episode of Little People, Big World, but I have followed Audrey Roloff’s Instagram account and personal blog for some time and I just adore her! She, Jeremy and their precious daughter the cutest! I absolutely love reading real life love stories, so I was so excited to read A Love Letter Life. Having been married for nearly 20 years I have was curious to read their advice for couples as a couple with a much younger marriage than my own.

Upon first glance I thought this book was geared toward married couples, but quickly realized that it in fact is a perfect book for dating couples full of great advice. Within the pages Jeremy and Audrey retell their dating story and give great advice such as encouraging you to stop settling for convenient relationships, they share both male and female differences in dating, cover tough topics like purity, give their nine rules for fighting well.

This book is a must have for your dating children or your own dating journey. It shares practical tips, relatable struggles, hard lessons, and a beautiful devout commitment to your beloved, all are extremely important lessons and tips for all dating couples. Even as a long time married woman I found this book, lovely and encouraging, it will absolutely be handed down to my teenage son once the time comes…such a weird thought!

From the Publisher: In A Love Letter Life, Audrey and Jeremy share vulnerable insights from their own journey, encourage readers to stop settling for convenient relationships, offer perspective on male and female differences in dating, tackle tough topics like purity, give their nine rules for fighting well, suggest fun ideas for connection in a world of technology, and provide fresh advice on how to intentionally pursue a love story that never ends.

As Jeremy and Audrey write, if you can fall into love, you can fall out. True love is something you choose to live out each day through your actions, decisions, and sacrifices. To find and still seek, that is love. From the moment you meet your potential spouse, you can be intentional about shaping a beautiful love story, uniquely written for who God created you both to be. A Love Letter Life will equip you to pursue an intentional, creative, and faithful love story from your first date to “I do” and beyond.

A Standard of Grace: a guided journal

See the source imageI first discovered Emily Ley when I received Grace Not Perfection before its release from her publisher! I was immediately hooked and LOVED her…we both have an older son and boy/girl twins!! How cool is that! Anyway, If her name sounds familiar but you haven’t read her books you probably know her from her HUGHLY popular Simplified Planner {Its AMAZING!} But today we are here to talk about her newest creation A Standard of Grace a guided journal!

234EFA2E-01BA-4C4C-8A34-B722912632D4

Not only is it STUNNINGLY gorgeous but it is awesome…more about my thoughts in a sec, but first lets hear from the publisher!

Are you standing in the middle of opportunity and being overwhelmed of crazy when you really need calm? Not sure where to start to simplify and bring grace and peace to your home?

A Standard of Grace is a gorgeous four-color, joy-inspiring guided journal designed to help you nurture your dreams, discover your hopes, and pay attention to those things you hold dearest to your heart.  With quotes, journaling prompts, and Scripture, bestselling author of Grace, Not Perfection and A Simplified Life Emily Ley, encourages you to reach for the life of you want—all while holding to a standard of grace.

Both gorgeous and useful, A Standard of Grace will make a lovely gift and keepsake as well as be a powerful tool for both embracing where you are while reaching for your goals and dreams. Through practical, easy-to-follow prompts for journaling and reflection, Scriptures, and inspiring imagery, you’ll find an accessible, inspirational journal that to enjoy personally and to share with friends.

There have been quite a few “Guided” journals out recently and honestly most have fallen flat, but A Standard of Grace is not like all the others. It’s perfect for this busy mom who has very little time to herself. A Standard of Grace is broken down in 52 weeks, each week focuses on one or two journaling prompts…I LOVE this aspect, some times I find daily prompt journals to be a bit overwhelming or underwhelming, the fact that this one focuses on less means that we are really able to mull over what you are writing in your journal!! Each week starts with a VERY meaningful Bible verse {LOVE} and a little paragraph where Emily shares her thought, feelings or just an observation {again LOVE} It truly feels like you are journaling with your friend who cares and deeply loves you!

Lets just talk a moment about the prompts, so are way easier than others, some you can probably write with your eye closed, other prompts however may truly take the week to do, invoking emotions that you maybe didn’t know were right there. This journal just came out so of course I haven’t finished it but I have thumbed ahead and I feel like Week 10  “Surrendering Control” and Week 32 “Grace for the Guilt” may be a bit difficult and emotional.

IMG_7928

I LOVE this Journal so so so much and I cannot wait for you to get it too! I want to get this for my sweet BFF Sara who is also a twin mom with not much time on her hands, but I know would LOVE it!

I HIGHLY recommend A Standard of Grace and all other Emily Ley books, I will be ordering her newest planner soon so keep an eye out for that review!

The Secrets of Paper and Ink {Book Review}

The Secrets of Paper and Ink - By: Lindsay Harrel

Today I’m excited to share a book that I absolutely loved in the month of February! It’s called “The Secrets of Paper and Ink” {e-book version}

The Secrets of Paper and Ink follow the follow the lives of three women Sophia, Ginny and Emily. Although they have completely different lives they end up being very linked.

After a horrible situation Sophia seeks refuge in Cornwall, England, for the summer. Finding the perfect place to stay and a wonderful summer job at a little bookshop, she ends up befriending the also suffering book store co-owner Ginny. When Sophia accidentally finds of a 150-year-old journal written by Emily, it sends her on an unforgettable journey of finding herself and helping Ginny along the way too!

Sophia, Ginny and Emily’s stories are shared with detail creating a connection with all three women. My guess would be that ANY reader will identify with one or all three women.

This book shows how heartbreak and loss can turn into hope and joy…and there is some very sweet romance too. I love all the characters in the book and really hope for a squeal!

Grab The Secrets of Paper and Ink asap! Guys this is a perfect book to read in front of a fire or on a beach! In my opinion it is a great book for any woman who needs a bit of encouragement through a difficult time.

Thank you to Booklook Bloggers for the opportunity to read and review this e-book!

Arcade and the Triple T Token!

book

We ABSOLUTLEY love this book! Not only is it pretty much perfect for my nine year old son, but guys its written by Rashad Jennings former NFL running back and Liberty University alumni, now I realize that may not be as big of a deal for you as it is for my kids, but the Liberty University aspect is HUGE in our house…why? My husband is also a Liberty University alumni and all our children plan to attend!! Not an NFL fan or don’t know much about Liberty University, but still thinking the name Rashad Jennings still sounds familiar? Well, there is a reason why, he was on Dancing with the Stars and won!

From the Publisher:

Eleven-year-old Arcade Livingston has a problem. Several, actually. The Tolley twins, a.k.a. neighborhood bullies, are making Arcade’s move to a new city even harder than it needs to be. They expect him to do their research papers and interactive displays for the sixth-grade career expo’s theme: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Besides doing their work, Arcade doesn’t even know his own answer to that question.

Then at the library—Arcade’s favorite place to chill—a mysterious old woman gives him a golden arcade token that grants him a unique gift. A gift that allows him to time travel between different places including his own future. From sitting in the dugout with Babe Ruth, to hanging on to the back of a bucking bull, to performing life-saving surgery on a dog, Arcade has no shortage of adventure! Together with his older sister, Zoe, Arcade explores life’s biggest thrills and challenges, and the two also have a big mystery to solve. Who is the rightful owner of the incredible Triple T Token that leads to such astounding adventures?

Arcade’s circle of friends begins to widen as the Triple T Token hangs from his neck. Pulsing. Beckoning another adventure. The question for Arcade, Zoe, and their new friends is no longer, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s, “Where will we go next?”

Today I thought it would be fun to have my guy write the review so with out further ado here you go…From my 9yo son Simon: “I really like this book! Arcade is a cool name. Arcade loves the library and one day he meets a mysterious person and gets a cool token like the ones at the arcade but it isn’t for games its magic and takes him to different times and places. Arcade and Zoe do all kinds of really fun cool stuff, and the bullies get put in their place, I like that because I don’t like bullies who push people around. I think you would like this book and your son needs it, if you have a girl she will like it too. I love reading it with my dad. I want to go to Liberty like my dad and Rashad!”

Guys, its like this book was written specifically for him! It has been incredibly difficult to find a book series that is right for our little man but we have now! Fun Fact book 2 comes out right after Simon and his twin sisters birthday!!!

I highly recommend this book to anyone…boys, girls, parents, grandparents…seriously its great!
