Book Review – Three Cups

Three Cups is a beautiful book, written for children, teaching them how to save, spend and give. The idea behind the book is that it instills in children good money habits from a young age.

The story  follows a young boy who was given three cups by his parents on his fifth birthday, one for saving, one for spending and one for giving. His parents tell him that the cups with take him on wonderful adventures! As he is given his allowance each week he equally splits the money between the three cups. After a period of time his mother takes him to open a bank savings account to put the money from the savings cup in -“Adventure!” The boy wants to buy a baseball mitt, but doesn’t have enough, so he saves and is able to buy what HE wants – “Adventure!”  He then goes on to donate his giving money, the boy is blessed as he see how happy the people are the recipients of the donation – “Adventure”  This continues as the boy grows and as he becomes 18 the reader can see what he puts his bank savings money towards.

This book was perfect for my 6 year old son, we already implement the 3 cups, but he loved being able to what another boy did! It was inspiring to his little heart!

At the back of the book there is also some guidance for parents who want to integrate the three cup method into their family.

Authors Tony Townsley and Mark St. Germain have written a fabulous book that will introduce kids to saving, spending and giving. We live in a part of the world where kids want all the time, and often get without having to save up their own money. I know my own kids seem to think that money grows on trees! By introducing the concept to them that they can save money, spend some and give some away, at a young age, will stand them in good stead for the future.

The publisher does not give an age range for this book, However, Amazon advertises it for children 4-8 years old. I honestly would consider this a all ages book, perfect for reading aloud to your children, for new readers to read on their own, children will enjoy the beautifully illustrated pages. First, my husband and I read this book, and absolutely loved it!  My 6 year old loved it and my 2 year old twins sat and listened, did understand quite a bit!  The book is 32 pages and I think it is pretty perfect.

From the Publisher:
Teaching children how to save, spend, and be charitable can be as simple as 1, 2, 3.

All parents want to teach their children good money habits from an early age. Many start by giving them an allowance. But it’s equally important to teach children a positive, generous attitude as they learn to use money responsibly.

Filled with warm, memorable illustrations by award-winning painter, April Willy, Three Cups is the story of one family’s unique and effective method of teaching personal financial management-and how one boy reaped first the small, then the immeasurably great rewards of the lessons he learned.

Book Review – God Gave Us You

Publisher Description

When a charming polar bear cub climbs into bed one night, she asks her mama a very important question–one that little “human cubs” often wonder about too: “Where did I come from?”
As Mama Bear tucks her young cub under the quilts, she gently, tenderly, and reassuringly communicates the message loving parents everywhere (bears and non-bears alike) want their little ones to hear: “We wanted you very, very much, and we are so very glad because…”God gave us you.”

Perfect for bedtime, naptime, storytime, or anytime, God Gave Us You provides a valuable opportunity to build children’s self-esteem every day and assure each one that he or she truly is a welcomed, precious, and treasured gift from above.

Book Review – Thank You, God, for Mommy

Thank You, God, For Mommy

Padded Board Book
By Amy Parker

Mommies do so much for us! It’s time to thank God for the blessing they are. In this adorable board book, a little panda thanks God for his wonderful mommy—a mommy who gives hugs and cuddles, who takes great care of him, and most importantly, who offers love and guidance for her precious panda cub.
The love and sacrifices of mothers everywhere will be celebrated by mother and child as they snuggle up together and say Thank You, God, for Mommy.

My review…

I got this book a few days after my birthday! I love it so much and so do my kids! The Panda Bear illustrations are precious…I love Pandas! My six year old son was so excited to read this book, he wanted to sit in my lap and cuddle while we read it, which I totally love…what mommy wouldn’t. Although it is a short little picture book, it is powerful and very sweet and moving! The beginning of each page starts with “Thank you, God, for Mommy…” and has a adorable illustration to go with each page.

Thank You, God, for Mommy,

And lullabies so sweet—

The beating of her great, big heart

Sings me right to sleep.

I would highly recommend this for every family! It is a perfect book to share with you little ones. Share your love for them and God’s beautiful love as well!

Book Review – The Beginning Reader’s Bible

This exceptionally illustrated Bible storybook allows children to read the story, pray to God, and grow closer to Him.

Using actual Bible text from the International Children’s Bible® as well as prayers, memory verses, and fun activities, children will love this large format and be engrossed in the intricate detail of the illustrations. Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments are included and stories are accompanied by a prayer for the child to pray, a verse to memorize, and a fun activity to help them grow.

Instead of writing only my review on this Bible story book, I want to have my 6 year old son join in and give his review as well…his input has been added to my review! 🙂

First off, I truly love this Bible, but as a Storybook and this is why…

What I liked:

The books is large and very well made, perfect for small hands

It is very easy to read, and uses actual bible verses. The Story of how God create the earth in in the Beginning Reader’s Bible is the actual text.

The book is beautifully illustrated.

Something that my son and I enjoyed that the stories were more than 3 or 4 sentences. They are actual bible text. He like that this bible and Daddy and Mommy’s bible say the same thing.

Something that we loved was the little info bubbles on each page…containing a memory verse, a fact, a song, or a activity. He love the activates, and the memory verses the best.

My son enjoyed being able to read along with me. He loved being able to read on his own as well! The fact that he can easily grab it a start reading it is a HUGE plus for me and why I am giving it 4 stars!

Ok, so what I wasn’t fond of:

Although the Stories have more than a few sentences, I would have like to seen a bit more substance *note some of the stories were more than one page (this are few, however), I am referring to the other stories that are a half a page*. This is supposed to be for ages 4-8, it seemed to be more of a 3-5 or younger ‘Story Book’ I noticed that my son wanted to hear more, so at the end of each story we usually ended up grabbing our family bible and reading the ‘story’ out of it…which he loved!!

This is more of a “Storybook” than a Bible.

So, with all that being said, All and all I do believe that this would be a great addition to your Childs library. It would also be a great gift for a non-Christian family member or friend with children. Personally I am happy we have this, but we will be getting our son a actual full text Children’s bible.
