Courage to Soar {Book Review}

We all watched as Simone Biles dazzled us in Rio this summer. With her adorable spunky personality how could you not love her! Actually because of her and my daughter {age six} fell in love with gymnastics and started in September after the Rio Olympics. Seeing Simone’s determination helped my daughter work hard and always try new things, and in less than two months she was advanced to pre-competitive team!! I know that my daughter is not the only one 🙂

Back to this summer, as you watched Simone did you ever wonder how she got there? Did you ever wonder when you would hear the little news blurbs talk about how she was adopted or how it’s been a hard road? I know I did so when I was given the opportunity to get my hands on her book Courage to Soar I absolutely jumped at the opportunity (my daughter was just as excited as I was.)
In the book the Courage to Soar Simone shares about her very early life, early memories and the trials that this little tiny girl and her siblings went through…have a few tissues on hand. It’s not just about her early life but her life from then up until, well now! My daughter LOVED the section of the book that was full of pictures of Simone from little girl to now!

Courage to Soar is all about encouragement and that is exactly what it does! I love that it shows how Simone went from a very difficult beginning to being the star that we all saw at the 2016 Rio Olympic games.

It’s such a wonderful book. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially those of you like us who adore Simone. If you have gymnast this is a book that she will absolutely love.

If you do have a gymnast who loves Simone I recommend check out her signature leotards at GK Elite!

What I’m Loving | August | Minecrafters Bible

From the back cover “Do you ever feel like it’s more fun to exist in the computer world than the real one? Is that the only place you can control your destiny? Well, God is the original great world builder, and he gave us the power and the skills we need to make changes in the real world. The Minecrafter’s Bible, NIrV contains the full text of the New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) of the Bible (from Genesis to Revelation) as well as 24 color tip-in pages featuring full-color illustrations in the style of wildly popular virtual-world-building games. Featured stories include the days of creation and great builds of the Bible.”

First off no, this isn’t an instruction book of how to play mc4Minecraft {I recommend grabbing the set they have a Costco for that!}

Is your house like mine and at any given moment someone is playing or talking about Minecraft? When I heard that there was going to be a Minecraft Bible I was stoked to get it for my kiddos! I think this Bible is such a fun idea, the idea of combining  faith, creation, Jesus and Minecraft is genius! My kids all genuinely love reading there Bibles and studying God’s word but this Bible has added a fun spin of one of their favorite games.

The color illustrations {understand that they are not fully licensed Minecraft images they are “like” minecraft!} are placed in chronological order, but not next to the story they portray.

Each of the 24 color pages feature Minecraft as the Characters of Bible stories, including:

  • How To Use The Bible
  • Creation
  • Noah’s Ark
  • Tower of Babel
  • Ten Commandments
  • Building of the Tabernacle
  • Walls of Jericho
  • Samson’s Strength
  • David and Goliath

and so many more

Each picture also has verses and Scripture summaries printed on the picture as well.

I would have liked to see more “minecraft” pages , don’t get me wrong we LOVE the 24 included it would just be fun to have more. Also I would have LOVED to see this Bible in a NIV version or ESV as well!

This Bible would be great as a gift for the Minecraft gamer in your life! I would recommend this book ALL ages {I have seen many say this is “only for ages 4-10” my question is why? We all play Minecraft in our house, we all loved the illustrations} Mine crafters Bible…what a perfect conversation starter 🙂

What I’m Reading | June | Wild and Free

Do you want to live “Wild and Free”? In the their new book Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan takes us back to God’s original plan for women, a beautiful life living wild for God and free from the expectations of this world. How many times have we or other women/mom we know buckle under the pressure of specifically social media pressure? It’s sad that so many women are living backed into a corner because of expectation…many times unattainable expectations. These lovely lady sharing their own stories of feeling not enough, being too much and everything in between, it speaks to your soul with inspiration to live life Wild and Free, like wild horses ❤ {when you read the book you’ll get it}

Whether you are a shy observer like Hayley or bold go getter like Jess, you will be spoken to and I know your heart will be touched, and more than likely you will find your self identifying with one or both of these ladies. I found my self stunned as they shared their  stories…my story! I absolutely love that throughout the book we’re reminded that we are not alone in our struggles, but we are blessed to have a community of women who long to live this wild and free life as well. Are you like me and have a hard time allowing the shackles of shame break and let people in? They help you embrace the community that God has uniquely put you. Thought this book it is reiterated that you are just as you are, because the you that you are is perfect. Don’t forget that you are completely loved and worthy.

This book is something that I think all women need in their lives! Looking for a gift for a woman in your life? Consider this book! This would also be a great book for a women bible study!

Little Critters Board Books {review}

IMG_4013If you were born in the vicinity of 1975 or later, than chances are you are extremely familiar with the Little Critters book series! Growing up these were some of my most favorite books and I have a huge collection to prove it!

Each month I am given the opportunity Tommy Nelson as a Tommy Mommy to review some really great books! This month I was beyond thrilled when I found out that two of the books that I would be reviewing two Little Critters books!

As with all little critters books these two books have fun illustrations they’re engaging and I have a wonderful moral and message to the story!

My kids were so excited when they saw the two little critters books because their entire lives they have been surrounded by my paperback books from when I was a child (thank you mom for keeping those!)
The first little critters books and then tell you about is

We All Need Forgiveness
Forgive each other because the Lord for gave you.
Colossians 3:13

This adorable book follows Littler Critter through a series of accidents where he asked for forgiveness…but when the tables are turned he finds it more difficult to forgive and move on. He has hurt his friends but is it too late?

This book does a fantastic job of relaying the importance of forgiveness to small children.

My twins wanted to talk about each event in the book and tell why it was important to ask for forgiveness and forgive…it was precious listening to then talk about it with each other!

Next is…

Being Thankful”

Thank the Lord because he is good. His love continues forever. Psalm 107:1

In this book Little Critter is struggling with wanting things he doesn’t have. He sees things that his friends have that he doesn’t and he gets mad! After spending time with his grandparents he realizes that he is a lucky little critter and needs to be thankful for everything he has…because he has a lot more than a lot of others. Little Critter even get to help teach his little to be thankful for what she has.

The twins LOVED this book so much! They wanted to tell me all the things they are thankful for. This book couldn’t have come at a better time, they have recently starting to say “I want” and “I need” an awful lot. This book contributed to stopping that want want want mentality in its tracks (thank you Lord!)

I absolutely love that these two books are board books, I love the extra sturdiness of them.

If you have little ones {children, grand kids, nieces/nephews} I recommend adding these adorable books to your bookshelf!

Thank you to everyone who entered!

Share a Blessing {review}

I am so excited about Share a Blessing! When my daughter saw this book she absolutely freaked out she loves coloring stickers and giving people cards share a blessing was pretty much tailor-made for her!Unknown

This a genius little book is full of 24 different cards and over 1000 stickers so your child’s imagination for these cards is endless!

Recently I was given the opportunity to crochet a hat for a five-year-old girl who is currently going through chemo after being diagnosed with cancer this summer. This is not the first time that I have crocheted hat for a child going through chemo but this was the first time that I did after receiving The Share a blessing book so my daughter and I decided that we would make this little five-year-old girl beautiful card to go with her beautiful hat and tell her that she’s a fighter and we are praying!

Each card and stickers are beautifully coordinated together and each card has either an encouraging message or beautiful Bible verse!

I love that my daughter has been able to express her creativity as well as to show her sweet kind hard she loves sending cards to her grandma and her daddy and even me!

Do you have daughter {or son} who loves creating things or maybe a granddaughter? I would highly recommend share a blessing to you! Or maybe you were sending out cards! I would totally get this book for myself I kind want to take it for my daughter 🙂
The only thing that I would ever change about Share a blessing is that it could be 10 times bigger with hundreds of different cards to choose from!

*Please note that these cards do not come with envelopes so if you were planning on sending them in the mail you will need to grab up some envelopes to fit them

Thank you to all who entered!

God’s Little Princess Bedtime Devotional {Review and Giveaway}

I’m so excited to share God’s Little Princess Bedtime Devotional by Sheila Walsh with you!

At first glance I knew that this devotional is going to be amazing…because when is Sheila Walsh ever not amazing? I absolutely adore her!

God’s Little Princess Bedtime Devotional is the cutest little sparkly book that any little girl would love!

This devotional has 106 daily devotions and covers 36 different topics including:

  • anger
  • friendship
  • happiness
  • prayer
  • selfishness.

Each devotion is two pages! It starts with a Bible verse then the devotion & prayer…but that’s not all! Within each devotion is  ‘Good- Night Giggles and Grace’ this a fun little interactive activity for your little princess to do before prayers and bedtime! One of my favorites is on page 77 in the God’s job for you devotion.

“You can learn to tell Bible stories to others. Line up Teddy and your other stuffed animals on your bed. Pick out your favorite Bible story and practice telling all your little listeners as well as mom and dad.”

All the devotions are super easy for the littlest of girls to understand and retain {my daughter (4) LOVES it!}

gb2Sheila Walsh did awesome with the headings of each devotion their fun headings like

  • How to Sparkle like the Sun
  • God Knows Everything
  • Mumble, Grumble, Grump
  • What Does Love Do
  • God Makes You Strong

I absolutely love the devotion entitled: ‘God Never Changes’ for this devotion Sheila used James 1:17 “Every good action and every perfect gift is from God. These good gifts come down from the creator of the sun, moon, and stars. God does not change like they’re shifting shadows.” Sheila continues from there with the Good Night Giggles and Grace: “Shadows are always changing. They can be long and tall, and then short and fat. Take turns making shadow puppets on the wall with your mom and dad. Can you make a bunny? A dog? A bird? See how the shadows change as you move? Shadows may change all the time but God never does!” The devotion ends with this precious prayer “Dear God, all around me, things are changing. But, God, you never do. It makes me feel so safe to know I can always count on you. Amen.”  My Daughter LOVED it all! EVERYTHING from start to finish!gb3

What do I love about it? I absolutely love this devotional!  I love that it is so girly and targeted just for girls. I love the fun little before bedtime games and prayer! My daughter and I can have special mommy daughter time where she is the number one focus, because it’s really hard to be in a house full of boys sometimes! This Devo it such a wonderful addition to our bedtime routine! I think any mom that has a little girl or girls will love this book!

God’s Little Princess Bedtime Devotional is perfect for little girls between the ages of 4 and 7! The devotional is hardcover and sparkly with jewels, and retails for $14.99.

The Christian Mama’s Guide to Baby’s First Year Book Review

I recently was recently sent this book and loved it…the only problem? My littles are all beyond this age. I was thrilled to give it to a brand new mom that I love!

I absolutely love that throughout the book, Erin Mapherson includes “Time Out For Moms,” brief devotionals with a quick Scripture verse and prayer to help settle and calm your emotional heart. She helps you focus on God even when you are so sleep deprivation and a major case of baby brain.  This was so perfect for my friend and I really wish I would have had this when my babies…were well babies {especially the twins!} Erin is so careful to be inclusive, she includes tips and info for adopting moms as well as birthing moms, those that had a C-section and those that delivered vaginally, those that breastfeed until their kids are 2 and those that use the bottle in the hospital room, and for working moms, stay-at-home moms and work-from-home moms! How great is that? I have friends that are in every single category and so often those of us who had c-sections feel like out casts and mamas who can’t breast feed are treated like they are not good moms…that isn’t the case at all an Erin does a amazing job of just being there for you and being your best friend!

This book is light and easy to read and very funny along the way which is so very important because when you come home with a new baby or have a little one it is really easy become robot like especially if you are exhausted or overwhelmed, Erin really helps to bring back reality in a fun way!

I could spend the next hour or two telling you every thing that I love about this book, but instead I want you to head out and get if for yourself, daughter, friend, whoever!

I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review!
