In LEGO® Scooby-Doo!: Haunted Hollywood, the gang heads to the entertainment capital of the world, Hollywood, where they take a tour of the legendary Brickton Studios, a historic Hollywood movie studio. While visiting the lot, the gang is surprised to find the once powerful film studio has fallen onto hard times. Neglected and in disrepair, Brickton, which has lost its luster, now faces threats of closure and an impending sale to greedy developers who want to tear it down.

LEGO_SD_Haunted_Hollywood_24.jpg - A

To top it off, the Mystery Inc. gang discovers that the studio’s backlot is haunted by the ghost of Boris Karnak, a famous, oldtime movie actor who has been making ghostly appearances in the roles he once made famous – including the Headless Horseman, the Mummy and the Zombie. The ghostly sightings have frightened away the cast and crew of Brickton’s latest film production, which was the studio’s final effort in trying to save the company from going under. Now with production halted on the movie which was supposed to rescue Brickton from its demise, it looks as though the famous backlot is destined to fall into the hands of the developers after all. Will it be a wrap for Brickton or will Scooby and the gang find a way to help the studio achieve box-office success? It’s a “bricktacular” adventure no Scooby-Doo! fan will want to miss!

31 Days of Kettlebell Toning & Healthy Living {Day 8: Break for Mourning}

KB31

Hi guys! Today has turned out quite a bit different than expected. Just a short time ago I got a phone call…the dreaded phone call that no one ever wants. A close family friend {one of my moms closest friends} died in her sleep last night/early this morning. She was a wonderful woman and was too young.

So, here’s the thing…I’m REALLY sad, I’m in shock…and…I do NOT want to workout. I want to cry, so I’m going to. I am taking today off from everything. We all need to mourn and that’s ok. Tonight I will start back up again, but right now I’m taking time for me and comforting my mom and the family.

Please pray for this family. Her son really needs prayer RIGHT NOW! He found his mother and just a few years ago he found his father after his passing {I cannot imagine find one parent passed…but to find both is unbearable}

Thank you for your support and understanding! I hope you day is going amazingly good! If you have something awesome going on please share in the comments! I would love to share in your good and happy news now more than ever!

In case you missed it

Our family was first introduced to What’s in the Bible? through the children’s director and dear friend at our former church a few years ago. From the first time our son saw What’s in the Bible he was HOOKED! Then we borrowed a DVD from and watched it as a family…and we ALL were hooked! Not only does What’s in the Bible? make understanding the Bible easy for kids, but it’s done in a really fun way! Phil Vischer and his staff has done a phenomenal job with these DVD’s! The knowledge our kids have gained is amazing, our oldest LOVES reading his bible so that he can increase his knowledge. In fact the kid is so smart he can easily enter into conversations with adults {both the What’s in the Bible? DVD and the fact his dad was a youth pastor and currently working towards a biblical degree, have contributed to our sons knowledge:)}

Our kids absolutely LOVE all the cute characters..and so do we!

charac

My husband and I absolutely love that one of our favorite duos Rhett & Link {from Good Mythical Morning} sings fun songs…Like this one about Genesis in Vol. 1!

About Volume 1: In the Beginning

What’s in the Bible? Volume 1 is all about the beginning! It covers the book of Genesis and answers the following two questions:

Untitled-12

IMG_4474

Volume 1 covers some of the most popular Bible stories from the book of Genesis like, the story of creation, Adam and Eve, Abraham, Noah’s Ark, and so much more! They are SO MUCH fun! I love that kids are engaged and having fun while they are learning!

What’s in the Bible? is the perfect whole family bible time for our mornings! My  husband works from home so we are able to enjoy and learn through What’s in the Bible? together!

How we use the What’s in the Bible curriculum in our home:

In addition to the DVD’s there are a whole bunch of fun activities! {images below are for What’s in the Bible Vol. 1}

guide

IMG_4502

The Discussion guide asks all kinds of questions to review what your learned during the DVD!

  • What does the word “Testament” mean?
  • How do we know the Bible is true?
  • What does the word “inspired” mean?
  • Do you remember the name of the first book of the Bible? What does it mean?
  • How do you trust God with your life?
  • Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust the Lord with all your heard and do not lean on your own understanding.” What are ways you can apply this to your daily life?

I just saved this to ibooks on my iPad instead of printing it out.

pages

IMG_4496

There are a bunch of really fun coloring pages that go with Volume 1 like:

  • Volume 1 DVD Cover Coloring page
  • Adam and Eve
  • Cain and Abel
  • Abraham {Abraham and Isaac}
  • Noah’s Ark

I made each of the kids their very own coloring book!!

Flash

IMG_4512

These flashcards are AWESOME! They will help you and your kids remember all kinds of wonderful and important things from the DVD, such as:

  • What’s in the Bible?
  • How many books are in the Bible?
  • How many years did it take to write the Bible?

The Flash cards are really easy to make! Print, Cut out the cards horizontally {you will end up folding the cards so be sure you only cut on the horizontal lines}, Fold and tape together or if you want to get really fancy laminate them!!IMG_4476

The flash cards are my oldest sons favorite! I even printed a second set and instead of folding them I cut them all out and he play a memory game with them!

PSCL

IMG_4515

This is probably my kids favorite activity! They are able to learn all kinds of fun stuff while learning! For this activity there are some really fun printouts including

  • 3 pages of Puppets
  • Space Background
  • Garden of Eden BackgroundIMG_4480

IMG_4485

IMG_4483

The kids love making their own puppet shows to tell the story of Creation or Adam and Eve! They also enjoy making up their own fun and crazy puppet shows…but they always come back to God and Creation…gotta love that!

{I printed out the puppets on card stock and the back grounds on regular paper}

In addition to all this great stuff there are a ton of printable memory verse cards!

IMG_4511 IMG_4510

These are one of my most favorite printables from What’s in the Bible? As you can see they are small, perfect for little hands! The kids each pick their own card each week and we learn them all as a family! The kids love that each card has a fun character, I love that they are learning and memorizing bible verses! There are some verse cards without characters I picked these ones specifically because of the characters *there are a TON of verse cards in the activity section. I printed out a bunch of different ones on card stock.

You can download and print all the activities here! {Psst…there are all kinds of activities for ALL the volumes!}

Ok so if I haven’t made it totally clear…We LOVE What’s in the Bible!

2014-2015 Curriculum {4th/5th & K/1st}

CurricChoicesI cannot believe that summer is almost over! This year we decide to take the summer off. There was just so much going on, including my moms 70th, my grandfather’s 98th {and subsequent illness that has us waiting to get the call that he has gone to be with the Lord} The biggest reason we decided to take off the summer is because of my husbands summer term {I mentioned in the past he is currently working towards his Bachelors/MBA} We wanted to make sure we got as much family time as possible before the Fall/Winter semester starts for him {next week} Ahhh I digress…lets talk Curriculum!

We are really excited for the 2014/2015 School year to begin! As always I’ve selected a very eclectic homeschool Curriculum {meaning I don’t strictly do a curriculum in a box, Classical, or  Charlotte Mason. I fall in the category of, well…eclectic!} If I told you that all of our school curriculum has been selected and we know exactly what we’re going to do for every single subject, well…I would be lying to you. The reason being that I’m still trying to decide between a couple different things, so look for a more in-depth ‘curriculum by grade’ post in September!

All Together {as a Family}:

Our family is very spoiled, my husband’s office is downstairs! He works from home 100% of the time, which means that he is very involved with our children’s homeschooling!

My husband and I want to instill faith, humility, honor and character in our children. Here are some of the resources we will be using to accomplish this:

Along with all of our Bible time together we will also together do:

cute-stars

4th/5th Grade: {Boy}

As usual Elias will be participating in our  Thursday ‘co-op’ throughout the school year! Classes he will be taking include Archery, Pottery, Leatherworking, Woodworking & Theater!

*Please note Elias is doing a mixture of 4th & 5th grade this year to ensure he is working at his level for him! These are all the ‘main’ books for the subjects we have a many ‘filler’ resources. I’m planning to having a large post coming up in late September about some of my favorite resources.

cute-stars

Kindergarten/1st: {Boy & Girl}

I would really like to find a local “school age” play group. I’m not interest in a co-op for the twins. We shall see what happens.

* Please note that the twins will be working at their paces, so if they don’t accomplish anything in for ‘first grade’ that’s absolutely okay! If they’re anything like their brother they were all in excel in certain subjects, I just wanted to be prepared.

My husband and I also have some really fun family field trips and activities planned for the school year!

Coming Soon! {Back to School Edition}

  • ‘Back to School’ Reviews and Giveaways
  • Just for you Mom: Homeschool Mom’s Bible Giveaway
  • Our 2014/2015 full Schedule
  • How we Organize our School Room {Next week!}
  • Amazing History Book List
  • How We Decide on our Curriculum
  • Our Day: A day in the Life of a Homeschooler
  • AND what you’ve been asking for since May:  My 2014/2015 Homeschool Planner {I’m running a little late and I apologize. Look for it later this month!}

nbts-blog-hop-calendar-2014

Don’t forget to head over to the Not-Back-To-School Hop and see more 2014-2015 curriculum! It’s always fun to see what cool resources families are using this year! Who knows you might learn about something you would like to incorporate in your curriculum!

Character Badges | The Ultimate Homemaking Bundle

badgesCHCharacter Badges perfect for children between the ages of 5 and 12

Little Character Badges perfect for children between the ages of 3 and 5

Character Badges is on of the AWESOME resources that comes in the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle! I’m absolutely in love with this program. Theres actually two versions – Character Badges {5 and up} comes with the colorful printable badges and monthly charts for obedience, disobedience and consequences and flashcards with character qualities and easy-to-understand definitions. There is also Little Character Badges {3-5} comes with the colorful printable badges and monthly charts for obedience & disobedience. Both come with a VERY well-written and easy to follow manual including diagrams of each chart and tips and tricks.

Your child will start off with a blank obedience, disobedience and consequences {for the older age} charts.

Obedience Chart: In both the Character Badges and Little Character badges three checks in each good quality results in a badge they get to wear all day long. I don’t know about your kiddos but mine eat this up!  In both there is the ability for your little one to receive a higher badge as the day goes on {for example with Little Character Badges 3 checks or stickers gets a “Very Good” badge, 6 gets an “Outstanding” badge and 9 gets an “Exceptional” badge. I love this part of the Character Badge program, it really encourages children to work harder and really consider there actions…LOVE!!

Disobedience/ Consequence Charts:  With each negative action your child will receive a check, with each check they receive a consequence, the more negative action the bigger the consequence {I love that because every family disciplines differently you decide the consequences}

All the information you want and need to know:

Character Badges {5-12}

older

A little about Character Badges | They were created because of a need saw in the creators own home! They needed consistency {don’t we all?} Life is busy. Life with children is often hectic busy, and when life gets hectic, things start to slip through the cracks. Consistency in child training can be one of the first things to go. Especially for families who have many little ones, it can be difficult to keep track of who has done what when and who has what reward or correction coming to them (whew!). The last thing you want to do is just resort to barking or spanking every time a child has gotten out of line (no matter the offense). Wouldn’t it be better for both you and your child to know exactly where they stand and to take some of the guesswork out of training them? This is where Character Badges can help.

Character Badges consists of three fantastic and colorful charts and a series of fun and colorful badges! They are designed to:

  • Present to both you and your child a visual representation of your child’s obedience / disobedience forthe month as well as the rewards / consequences associated with their behavior.
  • Encourage and motivate your child to perform good deeds throughout the month by rewarding them with a series of badges and the various rewards you attach to them.
  • Provide a way for you to tailor specific consequences to specific acts of disobedience (and keep it all organized) in the hopes of helping your child better understand why what they did was wrong.
  • Help you and your child know exactly where they stand regarding their behavior. A review of their chart at the end of the month will tell you and them what areas they are excelling in and what areas need work.
  • Help take the guesswork out of who has what coming to them (whether reward or correction). Character Badges can be especially useful to the parents of many children. Each child is different. Character Badges can help you to focus on specific areas that need attention in your child’s life.

Little Character Badges {3-5}

little

Think of Little Character Badges as a miniature version of Character Badges.  Little Character Badges are perfect for children between the ages of 3 and 5. The chart, badge, and consequence system has been simplified to make it easier for your little ones to receive the instruction they need. Little Character Badges is an excellent introduction to the Character Badges system and will help them transition to it when you feel they are ready.

Little Character Badges consists of two  fantastic and colorful charts and a series of fun and colorful badges. That are designed to:

  • Present to both you and your child a visual representation of your child’s obedience / disobedience over the course of a week as well as the rewards / consequences associated with their behavior.
A review of their chart at the end of the week will tell you and them what areas they are excelling in and what areas need work.
  • Help take the guesswork out of who has what coming to them (whether reward or correction). Little Character Badges can be especially useful to the parents of many children. Each child is different. Little Character Badges can help you to focus on specific areas that need attention in your child’s life.

Please note | “Character Badges and Little Character Badges are not intended to be a cure-all for disobedience in your children. We designed it to simply serve as an aid for families (like us) who wanted more consistency in the way they child-train. That said, the system requires time, attention, watchfulness, and, yes, consistency in order to bring about good results. With these things in place, we believe it can be a help and a blessing to your family.”  – Creators of Character Badges and Little Character Badges

Intentional Marriage | A 31 Day Devotional | The Ultimate Homemaking Bundle

Affiliate Links are used in this post. Thank you for supporting The Life in Bloom

UHB

One of the coolest perks about being an affiliate for the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle is getting my hands on some of the book included early! Over the next few days I will be sharing some of my favorite ebooks and programs that are apart of the amazing bundle! Intentional Marriage: the art of loving your husband  {a 31 day devotional} is one of the fabulous books in the “Marriage” section of the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle!

image

In the introduction Crystal says “the biggest threat to marriages in our modern world is neglect. When we stop trying, we start drifting apart.” I have to wholeheartedly agree, once you’ve been married for any length of time it starts becoming comfortable you get caught up in the busyness of life you start only thinking about yourself and sadly we often become thoughtless.Over the last 14 years my husband and I have strived to not allow the busyness of life to take control and pettiness of personal bad habits (in both my husband and myself) but the thing is life is busy and it’s easy to sink into that. Because it is so easy to get consumed by life you have to make every day intentional before you find yourself right in the middle of marriage in crisis. My husband and I have watched countless marriages fall apart because of more than just drifting apart but because they just stopped caring, they stopped being intentional in their marriages in their lives together. They had reached crisis and stopped wanting to be together. I think that it’s a sad reality that this is so very common in this current  world that were part of, but it is and we have to be proactive!

Let’s talk about intentional marriage | 31 day devotional! Crystal Brothers did an awesome job putting this together!!

There are 31 different topics covered in the devotional, including:

  • Cooking your husbands favorite food
  • Five things you love about your husband
  • Date night
  • Be his support
  • Speak only what is helpful assure him of your devotion
  • and more

Each day is put together in such a way that is very easily to accomplish a matter how busy you are. There are four parts to each day

For example Day 15 is “Thank God for him”

  1. A Bible verse Philippians 1:3  “I think my God in all my remembrance of you,”
  2. 2-4 paragraphs discussing what it means to “Thank God for him” What does this mean? How do we do it? Practical tip on how to accomplish said task.
  3. A daily challenge, for this particular day the challenge is “give thanks for your husband every time you think of him having an attitude of things will change your actions towards him”
  4. Finally there is a section of “Daily Challenge” reflection that Crystal has provided on each page. There are number of lines to write some reflection about “today’s challenge” for example you can answer questions like: did today’s challenge go today did it go better-than-expected? did today’s challenge go worse than expected? depending on each days particular challenge you will have different question to reflect on and respond to. If you are like me you will end up doing this section at the end of the day.

I really like the way this devotional is put together! There’s not too much, there’s not too little, it’s absolutely perfect! No matter how much time you have or don’t have, you can do this Devo! I found that no matter how many activities we have each day or how many things I have to do I always have the time I need to read each day, do the days challenge or prepare for it, and spend time praying for my husband. It has to be intentional so I recommend doing it first thing in the morning depending on your situation it might before work, before the kids get up, or like me when the kids are having breakfast. Set a time and stick to it {as best you can}

Besides the fact that this is just an altogether wonderful devotional I love what’s at the end of the book…awesome resources like:

  • 101 ways to bless your husband
  • 101+ free/cheap date night ideas
  • 101+ conversation starters

I like to add to each day the time to pray and write out a prayer for your husband. We are all different, were all going through different things, each of our husbands are going through different things. I would highly suggest taking the time to really pray for your husband!  Pray the things that he’s going through both big and small, any issues that you are having with each other, family, friends {ect.} and lastly, that God will help you be the wife that he has created you to be for your husband.

I hope you grab up the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle and enjoy the Intentional Marriage Devotional as much as I did! As a reminder this bundle is a one time offer, once it’s gone, it’s gone!!!! There’s only 5 days left!

Keep an eye out tomorrow for more of My Favorite ebooks from the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle!

Where You Go I Will Go…Lead me!

ruthIt’s been quite a while since I’ve written anything personal. Life got surprisingly and unexpectedly hectic…but all in a good way! Starting in September my crochet shop ‘Cute as a Fox Shoppe‘ went crazy. I was averaging anywhere from 10 to 20 orders per week (from etsy, Facebook and locally) which I absolutely loved! d4b92cd0904f25f6a25f3c481ad284c1One of my best-selling items with the Seattle Seahawks hat (if I haven’t mentioned it before my husband and I and our family are diehard Seahawks fans!) well as many of you know the Seahawks went to the Super Bowl… I thought I was busy in September and October wow I hadn’t seen anything yet! After the championship game between the Seahawks and the 49ers…the Hawks were going to be going to the Super Bowl!!! I was getting an order about every half hour! Finally around the beginning of March my shop slow down! That’s okay I was needing a break! Please feel free to visit my shop at any time I take orders all year!

iusb_760x100.13302204_f76c

In addition to my shop, my husband and I made the decision to completely close our photography business in 2013 and pursue ministry! (I know I’ve already told you) For many years we have known that my husband is called into ministry that (we are called to be ministry family) he is specifically called to be a pastor. In 2013 my husband was getting some very awesome opportunities including acting as interim youth pastor Sunday mornings!! For the last six months he’s been taking the junior high and high school students through and in-depth study through the book of Romans. Towards the end of 2013 we took a HUGE step of faith along with our very closest friends we decided to go with them and plant a church in a small local city nearby in sept. 2014. God was in control and he was leading us. jerWe then went to Seattle to meet with the elders at the parent church we were planning to branch from. The Lord rock our world the very next  day. After returning from that trip the Lord changed his direction for our family…(Staying at our current Church that we love) We did a TON of praying and seeking God to give us clear audible direction (basically writing it out for us on the wall) he did…we even prayed “Lord if your will is for us to stay then show us” we prayed for out of the blue conformation…within 12 hours we had gotten that conformation not once, not twice but three times. “Wow” is all we could think. proverbsFrom that day one we have gotten daily conformation that The Lord has us where we are supposed to be. He stopped us in our tracks and pointed us in a different direction. Much like Abraham standing before God ready to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac and then from the heavens Abraham heard the Lords voice telling him to stop. 10″ Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” {Gen 22} The Lord wanted to see that we were faithful servants, he wanted to see that if he said go that we would go. And we were ready that just wasn’t the plan he had. Our two other sets of friends are continuing with the church plant and we hope and pray nothing but the best for them and we pray that the church strives and it just reaches all the people in that little town. As for us and our family, the Lord is working and working big. I don’t know what the plan is. I don’t know how it’s going to look but I am excited to be a part of Gods plan and to see the way that he’s been working in my husband and our family and myself. Two years ago we would’ve never expected to be where we are today. After so many years of praying that Lord would open the doors for us in ministry, God has opened the floodgates. Please join with me and my family and pray for this journey. Also join us as we pray for our beloved friends who are stepping out in faith and starting from scratch at church and in a small town that really need them. So here we are standing ready and willing saying “Where you Go, I will Go. Where you Stay, I will Stay.”
