A Standard of Grace: a guided journal

See the source imageI first discovered Emily Ley when I received Grace Not Perfection before its release from her publisher! I was immediately hooked and LOVED her…we both have an older son and boy/girl twins!! How cool is that! Anyway, If her name sounds familiar but you haven’t read her books you probably know her from her HUGHLY popular Simplified Planner {Its AMAZING!} But today we are here to talk about her newest creation A Standard of Grace a guided journal!

234EFA2E-01BA-4C4C-8A34-B722912632D4

Not only is it STUNNINGLY gorgeous but it is awesome…more about my thoughts in a sec, but first lets hear from the publisher!

Are you standing in the middle of opportunity and being overwhelmed of crazy when you really need calm? Not sure where to start to simplify and bring grace and peace to your home?

A Standard of Grace is a gorgeous four-color, joy-inspiring guided journal designed to help you nurture your dreams, discover your hopes, and pay attention to those things you hold dearest to your heart.  With quotes, journaling prompts, and Scripture, bestselling author of Grace, Not Perfection and A Simplified Life Emily Ley, encourages you to reach for the life of you want—all while holding to a standard of grace.

Both gorgeous and useful, A Standard of Grace will make a lovely gift and keepsake as well as be a powerful tool for both embracing where you are while reaching for your goals and dreams. Through practical, easy-to-follow prompts for journaling and reflection, Scriptures, and inspiring imagery, you’ll find an accessible, inspirational journal that to enjoy personally and to share with friends.

There have been quite a few “Guided” journals out recently and honestly most have fallen flat, but A Standard of Grace is not like all the others. It’s perfect for this busy mom who has very little time to herself. A Standard of Grace is broken down in 52 weeks, each week focuses on one or two journaling prompts…I LOVE this aspect, some times I find daily prompt journals to be a bit overwhelming or underwhelming, the fact that this one focuses on less means that we are really able to mull over what you are writing in your journal!! Each week starts with a VERY meaningful Bible verse {LOVE} and a little paragraph where Emily shares her thought, feelings or just an observation {again LOVE} It truly feels like you are journaling with your friend who cares and deeply loves you!

Lets just talk a moment about the prompts, so are way easier than others, some you can probably write with your eye closed, other prompts however may truly take the week to do, invoking emotions that you maybe didn’t know were right there. This journal just came out so of course I haven’t finished it but I have thumbed ahead and I feel like Week 10  “Surrendering Control” and Week 32 “Grace for the Guilt” may be a bit difficult and emotional.

I LOVE this Journal so so so much and I cannot wait for you to get it too! I want to get this for my sweet BFF Sara who is also a twin mom with not much time on her hands, but I know would LOVE it!

I HIGHLY recommend A Standard of Grace and all other Emily Ley books, I will be ordering her newest planner soon so keep an eye out for that review!

The Secrets of Paper and Ink {Book Review}

The Secrets of Paper and Ink - By: Lindsay Harrel

Today I’m excited to share a book that I absolutely loved in the month of February! It’s called “The Secrets of Paper and Ink” {e-book version}

The Secrets of Paper and Ink follow the follow the lives of three women Sophia, Ginny and Emily. Although they have completely different lives they end up being very linked.

After a horrible situation Sophia seeks refuge in Cornwall, England, for the summer. Finding the perfect place to stay and a wonderful summer job at a little bookshop, she ends up befriending the also suffering book store co-owner Ginny. When Sophia accidentally finds of a 150-year-old journal written by Emily, it sends her on an unforgettable journey of finding herself and helping Ginny along the way too!

Sophia, Ginny and Emily’s stories are shared with detail creating a connection with all three women. My guess would be that ANY reader will identify with one or all three women.

This book shows how heartbreak and loss can turn into hope and joy…and there is some very sweet romance too. I love all the characters in the book and really hope for a squeal!

Grab The Secrets of Paper and Ink asap! Guys this is a perfect book to read in front of a fire or on a beach! In my opinion it is a great book for any woman who needs a bit of encouragement through a difficult time.

NIV Biblical Theology Study Bible

The Biblical Theology Study Bible is an absolutely wonderful study bible! This is exactly what I have been looking for  as I read through the bible, I especially love detailed verse by verse commentaries of this bible.

0-15

Lets address the elephant in the room I’ve seen a lot of negativity surround the size of this bible. In a world where you can hold a entire bible in the palm of your hand I would have to agree that yes this big it huge, yes it is heavy, however I do not agree that the size makes it difficult to use or take to church or bible studies, in fact my husband and I take this bible to church every Sunday and would recommend taking it to anyone who has this bible!

0-16

I personally love that there are over 20,000 commentary notes in this study bible! This is so important to me especially when I read a passage that is hard to understand or confusing. Along with the commentary there is wonderful concordance that is more detailed than than any other study bible I’ve ever had!

As with any study bible there are full color charts and the maps. These Charts really bring the bible alive. Some of the charts inlcude: The Lord’s Appointed Festivals, Stages in Israel’s Journey, Character Traits in Proverbs, Timeline of Prophets, New Testament Chronology, The Twelve Apostles and Parables of Jesus.
I recommend the Biblical Theology Study Bible to anyone who wants to study the bible more in-depth.

When Preach to Yourself: When Your Inner Critic Comes Calling, Talk Back with Truth by Hayley Morgan arrived I was so excited! I absolutely love her!

bpy1Preach to Yourself is written in a way that makes you feel like you are just sitting and chatting with your bestie! I cannot tell you how many times I laughed out loud and thought “oh my gosh me too!” I love Hayley’s writing style so much, she writes with so much encouragement along with truth, vulnerability and a refreshing amount of honesty!

Over the years I have heard so many say “oh _____ book totally impacted my life” honestly I rarely felt the same way until now. Literally from the first chapter I was changing the way I live. bpy2Within the pages of this book Hayley shares her real life experiences with humility, making it extremely easy for you to identify with her and feel comfortable! In addition there is bible scripture throughout the book adding a whole level of comfort, hope and love. Preach to Yourself is real, practical, honest and so authentic that you will want to get a copy for everyone you know…seriously!

Thank you to Booklook Bloggers for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Break the cycle of doubting yourself, take God at His word, and talk back with truth – a new message of freedom from bestselling coauthor of Wild and Free Hayley Morgan.

We know Christ came to speak life, but then how come our inner critic keeps showing up and stealing the mic? If we’re honest, she’s a harsh one, saying things we’d never dream of saying to others: You’ll never measure up, you’ll fail again tomorrow, you just can’t get it right.

It has been said that the eighteen inches from head to heart is the soul’s longest journey. Our head knows the good news is true, but our heart struggles to believe it, and it is in this gap that we battle to believe the promises of God.

Hayley Morgan, coauthor of bestselling book Wild and Free, has wrestled with this tension her whole life. In Preach to Yourself, she tackles it head-on to discover how we can renew our minds to renew our lives. For every woman who struggles with repetitive, negative self-talk, this book will show you how to identify the toxic loops where you get stuck and replace them with the truth of God we can believe with our whole selves.

This is not a “try harder” reprimand, it’s a “believe better” invitation: to take God at His word when He tells you who you are. Come along and learn a simple practice to break free from the lies holding you back, and step forward into the fullness of life God has planned.

NIV Journal The Word Bible For Women

b8

First of all let me just say before we jump in that this is one of my MOST favorite bibles I’ve ever had the privilege of featuring! Not only is it lovely but I love what’s on the inside…but we will cover that in a sec. Let me ask you a few questions: Are you a Christian woman? Do you love taking notes? Do you love to write in the margins of your bible? If so keep reading because you are going to love this!

I’m so excited to share this brand new and gorgeous NIV Journal The Word Bible For Women , this bible is filled with 500 journaling prompts! b7These aren’t your regular run of the mill prompts they are created in a way to help you dig deeper and reflect on the Word to help instill a deeper connection with the Lord! Awesome huh?!

Before we get more into the “journaling” part of this bible let’s talk a little about how pretty it is! It is a beautiful navy fabric with a stunning floral design but my favorite part about it is the cover reads “My Soul Finds Rest In God” intertwined in the lovely gold and red flowers! Please not the outer packaging looks as if the flowers are a coral/pink but on the actual bible they are a gorgeous deep red.

b6

A look inside reveals extra wide margins so you can easily write in them and the beautiful floral motif is carried throughout the pages of the Bible and the journaling prompts.

b5I have a couple other journaling bibles and this is the first one (I have) that has journal prompts and Omgosh I LOVE it! As mentioned about these prompts are designed to dig deeper and reflect more on the passage(s) you are reading!

Extra bonus: These journaling prompts would also be perfect in a small group or studying with a friend. I have let bible studies for years and these prompts would be prefect to start a small group discussion (kind of a ice breaker)

b2

In addition to the floral design, large margins and journal prompts the Bible also includes the a gold presentation page for personalizing prefect gift giving and a satin ribbon marker that we’ve all come to expect in our bibles. There is also an index of journaling prompts by subject.

b1

b9This NIV Journal The Word Bible For Women features the exclusive Zondervan NIV Comfort Print®! What does that mean? It’s basically the size of the print. (9.9-point print size)

Finally this Bible is that it’s part of the extensive Journal The Word Bible family. If you have a young lady in your life I would definitely recommend looking into the companion NIV Journal The Word Bible For Teen Girls. It looks fabulous but my little lady is still a bit too young for it.

365 Devotional for a Thankful Heart

0-2

I’ve probably mentioned it a dozen times but it ture…I love Zondervan gift devotionals! There is just something about the size and the devotions inside that fill me with joy. 365 Devotional for a Thankful Heart does not disappoint.

First off the cover is GORGEOUS isn’t it! Inside it’s broken down into months, making it extremely easy to find the day you need (it also has the traditional silk bookmark)

Each devotional begins with a verse (it notes which version it is from, which I love) then it goes into the devotion that is two to three paragraphs and ends with more of a prayer statement, it’s not a full prayer…example: Make my life a living praise to you, O Lord!

0-3

All in all I really like this devotional and know that many will as well! It’s perfect for a nightstand or your favorite chair where you have morning coffee or tea!

My only recommendation would be to read the whole chapter that each verse is taken from, I just feel that is gives you so much more!

Always Enough | Never Too Much

Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan, bestselling authors of Wild and Free, walk you through the gift of truly knowing who you are in Christ in Always Enough, Never Too Much: 100 Devotions to Quit Comparing, Stop Hiding, and Start Living Wild and Free.

unnamed-36

Daily devotional books are some of my all time favorites, I love the size. Devotionals generally pack a HUGE punch of everything you need for your morning. When I’m in a hurry I often toss a devotional in my purse and go (there have been many times when we’ve been running late and I have to rush to get the kids to all their classes) once everyone is settled I can sit in the coffee shop by their school and have “my” time with God!
unnamed-39
One of my current favorite devotionals is Always Enough, Never Too Much: 100 Devotions to Quit Comparing, Stop Hiding, and Start Living Wild and Free! This devotional is AWESOME! Let me ask you a few questions, have you ever felt like you’re just too much for some people? Yeah me too. Have you ever felt like you’re just not enough. Yeah me again. Whether you feel like you’re too much, just not enough or both you have two amazing friends in Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan who are there ready to love, encourage and uplift you. “Always Enough, Never Too Much” is a super unique flip-book devotional! Read the book one way then flip it and read it the other way! One direction focuses on “always enough” the other direction focuses on “never too much”. It’s like having two amazing books in one!

unnamed-37

How I like to use Always Enough | Never Too Much!

I read a devotion from the Always Enough side, then pray, ponder & journal what I just read, the I Flip the book to the Never Too Much side and do the exact same thing. I like reading from each side because it’s the perfect balance! As women we’re always going through something and this book can truly help so much…no wonder the subtitle is “100 Devotions to Quit Comparing, Stop Hiding & Start Living Wild and Free

unnamed-38

I HIGHLY recommend this to every woman in your life who needs a daily dose of encouragement! This devotional will speak to your soul and give you the pick me up your heart needs, as well as giving you wisdom.

By the way if their names sound familiar, well it’s because Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan are the authors of WILD AND FREE {one of my faves!}

Discover God’s wild freedom as you find your identity in Jesus with 100 devotions that will help you target and banish lies and insecurities.

We’ve all been there. We know that sneaking, small voice in our heads all too well—you’re too loud. Too quiet. Too young. Too old. Too unimportant. Too ugly. Too silly. Too serious. You’re not as successful as she is—look at her perfect family, look at her high-powered job, look at her great hair and size 4 skinny jeans. Why can’t you be more like her—be more in general? Why do you expect so much from everyone? Why can’t you take up less space? Ask for less? Be less? The lies track well-worn paths in our minds and our hearts, wearing us down and making us question our role in God’s kingdom.
