ONNIT

OBRBA new year calls for new workouts! If you’ve been following me for any length of time then you know my love for workouts, and friends, I LOVE my Onnit Royal Battle Rope {50ft. -1.5 in. thick}

From the first time my husband and I used it we were in love with this rope! If you have ever done a High-intensity interval training {HIIT} workout then you know that 30 seconds isn’t a quick as it seems. Add a Battle Rope into the mix and whoa…30 seconds is taken to an entirely different level, talk about a hardcore, body transforming workout!

Never heard of “Battle Ropes”? That’s ok, I got you!

What’s a Battle Rope?

A battle rope is simply a length Onnit Battle Ropes are 40 -50 feet in length and between 1.5 – 2 inches in diameter and weighing up to about 30lbs.

How to use a Battle Rope:

Onnit Battle Ropes are 40 and 50 ft. There are a few ways to use Battle Ropes:OBRAN

  • Battle Rope {Common use}: Attached/wrap the center of the rope around a secure anchor point {like a basketball pole for example} Then stretch out the rope and hold on the handles and you are good to go!ONBR
  • With a Partner: You and your partner each hold on to one handle, stretch rope out {this will result in you and your partner being 50ft apart} and begin workout!
  • Pull Through: Leave the rope coiled up with one handle visible, pull until you reach the other end of the rope

Battle ropes exercises are then done by lifting the end of the rope and making whipping motions {this look like waves} or dragging the ropes back and forth {this looks like slithering snakes} around. The goal is to maintain these movements for as long as possible…it’s hard…but it IS a lot of fun! Check out the Onnit video below!

Benefits of a Battle Rope Workout:

Battle Ropes are great for all fitness levels and they are considered low impact, so really anyone can use them! Because Battle Rope training involves non-stop full body training, you engage everything – arms, legs and core for an amazing calorie torching, fat burning sweaty workout!ONBRA

What I LOVE about Onnit:

  • Fast Workouts {15-20 minute workouts will kick your butt!}
  • Workout with a Partner {My husband and I LOVE workout together! Onnit Battle Ropes take it to a whole new level!}
  • Great Cardio Workout
  • Mix Up your Workouts…NEVER get Board Again!
  • Torch TONS of Calories FAST {300-500 calories per HALF HOUR!!! WHOA!}
  • Build Muscle And Burn Fat Simultaneously
  • Take Battle Ropes ANYWHERE {the biggest ropes are only about 30 lbs.}
  • Awesome Strength Training
  • Build Amazing Endurance

ONBRBWhen my Onnit Royal Battle Rope arrived I was beyond excited! Not only is this rope just amazing…it’s really pretty…sadly it isn’t available in purple any more, however, there is black and gray, black and yellow and black and red!

Do you have a battle rope but you just aren’t sure what to do with it? Here’s an example of the kind of battle ropes workout you could put yourself through. This workout uses the principles of interval training for producing maximum fat loss. Each interval below is performed 15 seconds on and 15 seconds off. Adjust the intervals to suit your needs as appropriate.

Some of our favorite Battle Rope workouts:

ONBRC

  • Double waves: keep a wave in the rope for as long as possible
  • Double rope slams: lift the rope high and slam it down to create as big a wave as possible
  • Moguls: jump side to side to create horizontal waves
  • Jump slams:  jump up and down to wave and slam
  • Crossovers: horizontal waves while crossing arms

They are also great for Gymnasts! We sometimes wrap it {SAFELY} around a garage truss and she uses it to climb…and swing…so do her brothers!!

I highly recommend the Onnit Battle Rope to anyone who wants to gain stamina, do a fun and intense workout, or just simply looking to switch things up in their daily workout!

Momentum Jewelry Giveaway! {Holiday Gift Guide: Fitness Edition}

TLIB2014When it comes to my personality I am definitely a girly girl, I love to wear jewelry but when it comes to working out, running and hiking the last thing that I want is to have on a whole bunch of jewelry… Especially since I sweat a lot, jewelry and exercise is not a happy combination.

I was thrilled when I was introduced to Momentum Jewelry!! It’s an amazing company they have created beautiful jewelry and is comfortable, stylish and inspirational…which I love!

I was thrilled when Amy (of Momentum Jewelry) offered me the awesome opportunity to give their Motivate Wrap and FootNotes a try and review on my blog! I chose the beautiful hot pink wrap with the saying “Stronger than Yesterday” (oval charm) and set of matching FootNotes to remind me no matter what I am doing to “Finish Strong

MOMSET

I was so excited when they arrive I ripped the package into shreds to get them out!

Let me tell you a little bit about each one of the awesome items that I received:485755_441891582518968_1636487217_n

From the first day I wore my Motivate Wrap I have gotten compliments no matter where I am! People are always asking where I got my bracelet from and they ALWAYS comment the “stronger than yesterday” and how cool that is!

This beautiful wrap is made out of a very soft, stretchy fabric so whether I am lifting weights running or hiking it stays put and stays very comfortable… This is a big deal because I am not a big bracelet or watch person but since the day I got my motivate wrap bracelet I have worn it 100% (excluding showers of course)!!

STYI just love this bracelet, I love the hot pink, I love the “Stronger than Yesterday” quote that reminds me no matter what I’m doing to push through because I am truly stronger than yesterday! I have honestly felt myself lagging during a run and looked down at my bracelet and it honestly motivates me to push harder than I did the day before and beat my speed or/and my mileage!! I want one in every color!

I love the stretchy wrap of that motivate bracelet because it can be used more than just for a bracelet, I gotten annoyed with hair in my face and took my bracelet off and put my hair in a ponytail during a run and I’ve used it as a headband.KB

Because of my love for my Motivate Wrap I have decided that this is going to be my go to gift for all my athlete friends! I have a friends who Zumba instructors PiYo instructors, runners and those friends I have who have worked very hard and met some pretty big goals. I think the motivate wrap would be an awesome gift to show these friends and family members how special and important they are and momentum jewelry does a wonderful job of getting that message of encouragement out there…it a really beautiful and fun way!

So since receiving my Motivate Wrap I have worn it running, hiking biking, doing yoga, lifting, on vacation at the ocean, relaxing with the hubby, sleeping, working….ok so pretty much everything except showering and swimming! No matter what I’m doing it is a wonderful encouraging reminder! I love my rap so much that I am planning on ordering a custom version for myself I just haven’t decided what I wanted to say yet… I can’t decide between two different sayings/quotes so I may just end up ordering two customs!

I’m sure you want to hear all about the FootNotes too!

FN2

I am in love with these little things! I love that they add a little bit of bling to my running shoes! But more than that I love that during a run or a hike when I am feeling like I just can’t take another step I look do at my shoes and I see that “Finish Strong” and just like the bracelet the footnotes push me too…well push on and finish strong! My husband and I have a favorite hike it we love to do every day (well, we try to do it everyday but when you live in the Pacific Northwest you learn to roll with the punches because you never know if it’s going to be a downpour or some other sudden weather) but on this particular hiking trail there is a hill about 2 miles in that goes almost straight up…I’m really short and it is a very difficult hill for me. The first time we hiked it with my FootNotes on I kept reading then and thought in my head Finish Strong, Finish Strong, Finish Strong and I pushed on and did not stop I kept my momentum and I truly finish strong! This may not be a big deal to a lot of people but for me it really was because this hill is a killer it is not my favorite.FN

I am absolutely in love with my new jewelry from Momentum Jewelry! I will be a forever customer and I think that if you try it out you will be too.

Are you looking for some awesome fitness jewelry? I would highly recommend getting your hands on some of the awesome stuff that Momentum Jewelry has to offer!

GYMBOSS Giveaway! {Holiday Gift Guide: Fitness Edition}

TLIB2014

If you spend any time here at The Life in Bloom then you know that I absolutely love my Kettlebell, HIIT, Running and pretty much any kind of interval training!

Not sure what interval training is? Basically an interval workout is a workout where you have bursts of intense workout followed by a short rest . The two of the most common types that you’re probably hearing about are TABATA and HIIT. Each of these workout require a period of time of very hard exercise followed by a short amount of rest time {example: 45 seconds of burpees  followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated 5+ times}

Love interval workouts? But…are you like me, and have gotten distracted and lost count of your sets or reps? Then the Gymboss Interval Timer is something you need!

I have tried numerous timers, apps, stopwatches, and even watching the clock. Then I was sent a GYMBOSS  {from the wonderful people at GYMBOSS} Let me tell you, WOW! It is by far the best interval timer I have ever used! I love it and I’m never looking back!

unnamed-2 copySo let’s talk a little bit about what I love about my GYMBOSS!

I really love it’s  basically a “set it and forget it” gadget! Once you start it there is are alerts to tell you start your workout or rest! With the GYMBOSS I didn’t have to worry about continuously looking at my phone, watch or clock. While using the GYMBOSS there is a countdown which I think is great and really helps motivate me to keep pushing on…especially during HIIT, Running and Planks! {Side note: how many of us have spent too time looking at the clock or watches on to realize we lost track of our reps…that’s really annoying!}

A few of my favorite features:

  • It’s extremely easy to use. I set mine up in about 90 seconds!
  • It’s really small, remember pagers? It’s about that size!
  • It’s extremely light and portable. It even has a clip so that you can clip it onto the equipment you’re using {like a treadmill} or you can clip it on your clothes!unnamed-3 copy I really like this option, previously I had been using an app on my iPhone…you know the whole sticking it in the bra strap, then it falls out or down your shirt. The GYMBOSS is certainly lighter and easier to attach to my clothes then my phone…AND it stays put!
  • It’s also water and shock resistant, which is really cool if you were a heavy sweater {*ahem like me}

As I previously mentioned I had been using an app on my phone. The first time I used my GYMBOSS I noticed something WONDERFUL…GYMBOSS does not time out. Seriously, when you’re  working hard there’s nothing worse than having your phone time out causing you to miss hearing the alarm or not see that you have completed that set…ugh!

Here’s the built-in features :

  • 1 or 2 intervals – 2 seconds to 99 minutes
  • Repeat up to 99 times
  • Beep and/or Vibrate alarm
  • Alarm duration 1, 5, or 10 seconds
  • Stopwatch function
  • Secure Belt clip
  • Compact Size (1 ¾ x 2 ¼ x ½ inches)
  • Water and shock resistant
  • AAA battery required

Final thoughts:

I love my GYMBOSS! Starting at $19.99 it would make the perfect gift {holidays, birthdays ect} for that fit fanatic in your life! Psst…I’m getting my hubby one for Christmas!

IMG_5800

There are so many great ways to use GYMBOSS that anyone and everyone will love it! How would you use a GYMBOSS?:

  • Kettlebell
  • Running
  • Cardio
  • Crossfit
  • Tabata
  • HIIT
  • Weight Training
  • Stretching and more

So far my favorite way to use my GYMBOSS it running interval training and Kettlebell workouts…and I decided to share a fun Kettlebell Circuit!

KBC2104

How to: Do each move as many times as possible for 45 seconds, rest 15 seconds then move to the next move. Complete the all moves then repeat 5X

Sooooo, how will you time yourself during this circuit? Don’t have a GYMBOSS? Well, I can help!

I’m beyond excited to announce that I have partnered with GYMBOSS to giveaway a Gymboss Interval Timer to one lucky reader! The winner gets to pick the color {Check out all the colors!}
AWESOME right?!?

Commercial Break Workout!

tvworkoutWe all need a little break right?! Sometimes we all need time to veg out and decompress from our busy days! For many of us it’s by watching our favorite show. That is the case for my hubby and I! We have our favorite few shows per week and they are perfect decompression for us. But…please tell me I am not the only one that finds commercials incredibly irritating! How many times have you been watching your favorite show only to be bombarded by the same two or three commercials the entire time…ugh that’s really annoying.

Did you know that the average 30 minute show has about 8 minutes of advertisements broken down into two or three commercial breaks? And for your favorite hour-long program it’s upwards of 15 minutes of commercial breaks…whoa considering our faves are the hour-long show!

Let’s not continue to get irritated when the commercials start, let’s start working out during them! Think about all the time we’ve been missing out on! Gone are the days that I will say “I don’t even have 10 minutes to workout”

Instead of standing idly by while this prime workout time slips through my fingers, I’ve created a fun little commercial break workout! The workout is based on a half-hour show resulting in nine commercials broken down over three commercial breaks. {If you are watching an hour show complete the workout and then start back at the beginning once you have surpassed 9 commercials!}

Do one workout per commercial…and here’s the fun part, I’m not gonna limit this workout to a certain amount of reps…instead I wanted to make is a mini HIIT commercial break workout! Fun right!

Below I have made a fun little printable! {Click to Download}

CBworkoutComplete each workout as many times as possible during each commercial {For the plank hold for the entirety of the commercial}

Not watching TV? Do each work out for 45-60 seconds
