Kids + Golf = SO MUCH FUN!

Golf in one of those sports that you can do forever and its loved by so many young and old!

My son Simon {our HE of our b/g twins} LOVES Golf and spends every day working on his golf game! Currently, twice a week his dad takes him to the Golf Club right by us!

si

Here are a few quick tips to make Golf fun for you and your young or beginner kids!

Let them be kids and call the shots:

We all want our children to learn the game right a way, we even have our own thoughts on the right way to play, but for little children they can easily become inundated and overwhelmed. When you take your child to the driving range let them lead the way and ask the questions they want to ask. Don’t worry the correct grip, stance etc. will happen…maybe not the first few times but it will come!

Celebrate:

Simply sharing the joy of good hit will work wonders for your child’s golf game! s12Enthusiasm will not only fill your child with joy and pride, it will grow your child’s desire to learn and excel in golf! So don’t be afraid to act like a kid again, jump up and down and be excited! You will have fun {which your deserve} and your child will LOVE it!

Don’t Criticize:

When it comes to children, they’re pretty easy to understand, either something is fun or not fun, and something fun can quickly turn to not fun when a child thinks they are doing something wrong. Kids also can misread correction as criticism and disappointment. When your child hits a good shot tell them “good shot” when your child has the right stance they them “great stance” they will thrive! Maybe your child doesn’t have a great hit or putt, don’t point out what was wrong about it, instead say some like “That was so good, next time try to_______” .

Let the short game shine:

s14Take advance of the practice green! Simon loves starting little putting competitions with his dad!
Simon also LOVES chipping and putting, he is always practicing and to be honest the putting green has instilled so much “Golf Joy” in him.

Play with some teaching, not teaching with some playing:

Lessons last between 30-45 minutes. We spend maybe 10-15 minutes of actual teaching then the rest of the time playing! We also love to just go to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls, it may take 20 minutes or 1 hour and its fun!
SAFETY:

Golf is so much fun but be sure to keep your children safe!

  • Locally children under six are not allowed on most driving ranges for their safety (be sure to check the age requirements of course you plan to go to)
  • Make sure to ALWAYS keep your child in your line of sight.
  • When you are on the range always have your child in front of you, not behind you.
  • Before you get started make sure your child knows the boundaries that they should stay in or behind.
  • NEVER let your child drive the cart to prevent injuries to themselves or others.

This post is based on our own experiences.

Who’s ready for summer? We are!!! We are so excited to share Gabbi’s new swimsuit with you all!

LA3

Isn’t it ridiculously ADORABLE? Gabbi recently received this little beauty {Venus Rosette Bikini} from Limeapple Apparel {I know how cute is that name!} Let me tell you a bit about the company …

GB

I absolutely adore this from their website:

We believe…
– in little girls being little girls for as long as possible
– in afternoons spent jumping, running, playing and laughing
– in not sacrificing comfort for style
– in boundless imagination, limitless potential and endless curiosity
– in healthy girls being happy girls
– in confidence as fuel
– in being strong in mind, body and spirit
– in girls’ natural ability to lead, nurture and achieve
– in happiness being contagious

I think it goes without saying that this a great company! LA5 copy
This is hands down the best quality swimsuit we have ever had for Gabbi! When it arrived little miss and I opened it together and she gasped and said “oh mommy it is gorgeous” (she loves using the word gorgeous..it’s too cute) I agreed it is absolutely darling but mommy was more impressed by the quality of this bathing suit! It feels expensive…like REALLY expensive…you know what I mean…there is just something about it that screams high-end!
LA2
The fit is impeccable! It fits as if it was custom-made for her!
As always when ordering online be sure to reference the size chart! Gabbi will be 8 at the end of summer and this bathing suit is a size 5 (Gabbi is barely 40 lbs after she’s eaten)
LA1The bikini stays in place even when wet! That is one issue we’ve had in the past with Gabbi’s swimwear, it may fit great dry but after a swim is a different story. Not so with this cutie!
We recently took this bathing suit on vacation and let me tell you it was adored by all who saw it! Everyone LOVED!
The Limeapple Venus Rosette Bikini is perfect for hotel stays because it drys very fast. While on vaca Gabbi and her brother spent a lot of time in the pool and in the evening they all hung their swim wear in the shower Gabbi’s was the only suit that was dried by morning!
LA6
A few great things about this swimsuit other than the fact it is ADORABLE!
  • Fully adjustable tie straps
  • Full bottom coverage
  • High quality appliquĂŠs that stay fluffy even after it’s been wet
  • Dries fast (perfect for vacations and hotel stays)

Check out all the great stuff that Limeapple offers!

Gabbi would love a Bubble Hoodie, The Delia Dress, & The Arvia Printed Swimsuit

What would you love to get from Limeapple? We’d love to hear!

I want to extend a HUGE Thank You to Limeapple for sending Gabbi this adorable swimsuit!

*Although Limeapple did send me this Swimsuit to feature I was not compensated for this post or require to give a positive review.  All thoughts + opinions are 100% my own.

Character Badges | The Ultimate Homemaking Bundle

badgesCHCharacter Badges perfect for children between the ages of 5 and 12

Little Character Badges perfect for children between the ages of 3 and 5

Character Badges is on of the AWESOME resources that comes in the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle! I’m absolutely in love with this program. Theres actually two versions – Character Badges {5 and up} comes with the colorful printable badges and monthly charts for obedience, disobedience and consequences and flashcards with character qualities and easy-to-understand definitions. There is also Little Character Badges {3-5} comes with the colorful printable badges and monthly charts for obedience & disobedience. Both come with a VERY well-written and easy to follow manual including diagrams of each chart and tips and tricks.

Your child will start off with a blank obedience, disobedience and consequences {for the older age} charts.

Obedience Chart: In both the Character Badges and Little Character badges three checks in each good quality results in a badge they get to wear all day long. I don’t know about your kiddos but mine eat this up!  In both there is the ability for your little one to receive a higher badge as the day goes on {for example with Little Character Badges 3 checks or stickers gets a “Very Good” badge, 6 gets an “Outstanding” badge and 9 gets an “Exceptional” badge. I love this part of the Character Badge program, it really encourages children to work harder and really consider there actions…LOVE!!

Disobedience/ Consequence Charts:  With each negative action your child will receive a check, with each check they receive a consequence, the more negative action the bigger the consequence {I love that because every family disciplines differently you decide the consequences}

All the information you want and need to know:

Character Badges {5-12}

older

A little about Character Badges | They were created because of a need saw in the creators own home! They needed consistency {don’t we all?} Life is busy. Life with children is often hectic busy, and when life gets hectic, things start to slip through the cracks. Consistency in child training can be one of the first things to go. Especially for families who have many little ones, it can be difficult to keep track of who has done what when and who has what reward or correction coming to them (whew!). The last thing you want to do is just resort to barking or spanking every time a child has gotten out of line (no matter the offense). Wouldn’t it be better for both you and your child to know exactly where they stand and to take some of the guesswork out of training them? This is where Character Badges can help.

Character Badges consists of three fantastic and colorful charts and a series of fun and colorful badges! They are designed to:

  • Present to both you and your child a visual representation of your child’s obedience / disobedience forthe month as well as the rewards / consequences associated with their behavior.
  • Encourage and motivate your child to perform good deeds throughout the month by rewarding them with a series of badges and the various rewards you attach to them.
  • Provide a way for you to tailor specific consequences to specific acts of disobedience (and keep it all organized) in the hopes of helping your child better understand why what they did was wrong.
  • Help you and your child know exactly where they stand regarding their behavior. A review of their chart at the end of the month will tell you and them what areas they are excelling in and what areas need work.
  • Help take the guesswork out of who has what coming to them (whether reward or correction). Character Badges can be especially useful to the parents of many children. Each child is different. Character Badges can help you to focus on specific areas that need attention in your child’s life.

Little Character Badges {3-5}

little

Think of Little Character Badges as a miniature version of Character Badges.  Little Character Badges are perfect for children between the ages of 3 and 5. The chart, badge, and consequence system has been simplified to make it easier for your little ones to receive the instruction they need. Little Character Badges is an excellent introduction to the Character Badges system and will help them transition to it when you feel they are ready.

Little Character Badges consists of two  fantastic and colorful charts and a series of fun and colorful badges. That are designed to:

  • Present to both you and your child a visual representation of your child’s obedience / disobedience over the course of a week as well as the rewards / consequences associated with their behavior.
A review of their chart at the end of the week will tell you and them what areas they are excelling in and what areas need work.
  • Help take the guesswork out of who has what coming to them (whether reward or correction). Little Character Badges can be especially useful to the parents of many children. Each child is different. Little Character Badges can help you to focus on specific areas that need attention in your child’s life.

Please note | “Character Badges and Little Character Badges are not intended to be a cure-all for disobedience in your children. We designed it to simply serve as an aid for families (like us) who wanted more consistency in the way they child-train. That said, the system requires time, attention, watchfulness, and, yes, consistency in order to bring about good results. With these things in place, we believe it can be a help and a blessing to your family.”  – Creators of Character Badges and Little Character Badges

Encouraging Little Readers!

anchoracademy_edited-2

For many of us we have one or more children embarking on the journey to become a reader!! YAY!! I love to read and I want my children to have the same love for it as I do! I’m sure you feel the same way too! My oldest son is well on his way to being a reader just like me…you know the ones who read a novel in a day or two because they can’t put it down? Yeah, thats me! I read the entire “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” in 2 1/2 days!

Here are some great and fun reading tips…it doesn’t matter if your child is at a very basic level or if they are well on their way to chapter books, these are still great to implement!

At Home:

Turn off everything…the TV’s, iPads, ipods, radios…anything that can be distracting to your little reader! Your child will begin to learn that when it is quiet it is time to read! Be sure that you are using book that at your child’s level. ipick

“I Pick” Wall Art Download

{I would highly recommend printing on cardstock and laminating after they have been cut to make them last!}

Designate a time EVERYday as reading time! Morning, noon or night! It doesn’t matter. For our home it is the afternoon for about an hour. Sometimes my son wants to read to me and other times he wants to read by himself. He must read something from the bible {His favorite book to read!} ((Heartmelting)) Then he may read any of his books. Currently his big favorite is THE CLONE WARS!

Check out some great Literacy Apps HERE! Reading Aloud Tips:

Reading aloud should be fun and interactive.  Ask your child questions during the book, like “what do you think will happen next” and make personal connections, “remember when,” that create a context for reading.  This sets your child up for success—even adults need to understand the context of reading materials in magazines and newspaper articles.
Laying groundwork for future independent reading is done when you first read aloud to your children: pause to confirm and revise predictions, ask questions and make connections.  This teaches your child that understanding text is a process that occurs before, during and after reading.

Before Reading
Choose books you or your child can get excited about reading.  There are so many books out there, don’t spend time reading ones you won’t enjoy!

  • If you haven’t read the book already, scan it to get a sense of it before you start reading aloud.
  • Plan an introduction—find links to personal experiences.
  • Introduce the title, author, and illustrator.

During Reading
Read with fluency and expression.  Children need to hear changes in your voice to indicate when you are reading dialogue. Vary your pace, too. Slow down to build up suspense and speed up during exciting scenes.

  • Hold the books so your child can see the illustrations.
  • Try to establish frequent eye contact with your child.
  • Invite your child to question and comment but keep it focused on the story.
  • Explain words and ideas you think your child might not understand.

After Reading
Sometimes a book will pique curiosity and lead to questions and conversation afterwards, sometimes not.  It’s ok either way!

  • Allow time for discussion
  • Encourage various levels of response with questions
  • Retell the story or reread it to enhance comprehension.

Reading aloud is a great time to enjoy books together.  The increased vocabulary, correct grammar and comprehension will come naturally.  Soon enough, it will be your child’s turn to say “all by myself” and read these books to you.  Then, it will be the chapter books and “just one more chapter before I go to bed, please?”  Way to go mom and dad, you’re building a strong foundation of readers who WANT to read when YOU read aloud today.

Fun Idea Child Reading:
