My favorite uses for Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint oil has so many uses, so is it any wonder that this oil is a staple in so many people’s homes including mine? Peppermint oil does so much more than just freshen your breath, it can….

  • Relieves Allergies
  • Relieves stomach-ache
  • Relieves Headaches
  • Relieves Neck/Back tension
  • Helps Reduce Fevers
  • Reduce PMS symptoms
  • Prevents and Relieves Heartburn
  • Helps with Nausea
  • Help with Indigestion
  • Helps Reduce Stress {I love to diffuse in the evening!}
  • Increases Concentration {I diffuse in the school room}
  • Helps relieve sunburns
  • Reduces Anxiety
  • Helps Curb Appetite
  • Helps Freshen Breath
  • And soooooo much more!

Some things to note about peppermint essential oil. This oil can absolutely be used topically however it is a very good idea to dilute it with a carrier oil such as Olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or fractionated coconut oil. If you have sensitive skin I highly recommend diluting it quite a bit to prevent any burning or allergic reactions such as a rash. Also never use pure coconut oil meaning undiluted on any young children I personally use peppermint oil without a carrier oil but it gets really hot and it doesn’t burn so please be aware of this and make sure you dilute it a blot before applying it to any children.

Here are a few ways that my family regularly uses Peppermint Essential oil!

Sore Muscles:  Peppermint oil has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties so it can relieve pain and inflammation. I often use Peppermint oil on my husband after a long work day to soothe sore muscles and my mom uses it in her nightly routine because it calms muscle spasms \ muscle cramps.

  • Topically: massage 2-3 drops along with a carrier oil onto the sore area {be sure to keep the oil away from your eyes because it will burn…badly}

Headache: If you are prone to headaches like me Peppermint oil will become your best friend! The use of this oil can help lessen the additional symptoms that often come with a headache or migraine such as light sensitivity, nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to noise.

  • Topically: massage 2-3 drops along with a carrier oil and rub on your temples, forehead, over the sinuses {be sure to keep the oil away from your eyes because it will burn…badly} also rub on the back of the neck and over shoulders.
  • Diffuse: 2-6 drops in a diffuser {this works great for me at bedtime or when I have to lay down because of a migraine.}

Colds/Congestion: Menthol in Peppermint oil can help so much with many different respiratory problems including nasal congestion, sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis and the common cold and cough. It is often included in chest rubs to help with congestion {psst you can make your own and I will be sharing a recipe as we get closer to the start of the new school year.

  • Topically: massage 2-3 drops along with a carrier oil and rub on chest and back. or drop into a humidifier to help clear sinus and lung congestion.
  • Diffuse: 2-6 drops in a diffuser as needed.
  • Steam it: Remember when you were a kid and your mom would have you sit with a towel over your head breathing the steam from a bowl of boiling water? This is the exact same thing but add 1-4 drops of Peppermint Essential oil  {your can also use Rosemary or Eucalyptus} Drape a towel over your head and breathe in the steam.

Stress: Because of the amazing uplifting and refreshing properties in Peppermint essential oil it is able to provide relief from stress, depression and mental exhaustion, it also helps with feeling anxious and restless.

  • Topically: Add a combination of peppermint {and lavender, geranium, bergamot or ylang ylang essential oils} to a warm bath the aroma with help relieve while it is absorbed through the skin.
  • Diffuse: 2-6 drops in a diffuser as needed {you can add the some of the other oils above as well.

Mmmmm Orange!

OrangeHave you fallen in love with Orange essential oil yet? If you haven’t tried it yet you will be surprised how much flavor it adds to your water, your cooking and treats!

Orange Essential Oil helps with skin complexion and wrinkles, boosts your immune system, helps with indigestion, detoxify and balances your body, it helps lift your spirits and it also helps cleanse your colon!!

My husband and I both start our mornings with a *glass of orange water, if you have not tried this it is so incredibly good! It’s really easy just add two or three drops to a glass of water and enjoy! {*This is based on the pure therapeutic quality of Young Living Essential Oils ONLY.  Other oils may not be 100% pure making them unsafe to ingest!}

I love to add a drop or two to my face cream in the morning, it smells glorious and makes my skin glow!

We also love to diffuse it because of its fresh and uplifting smell! I also just recently read that it helps with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) so we will be sure to always have orange through the winter months!

Our whole family enjoys this oil and one of our favorite treats to add this essential oil to is Orange Creamsicle Smoothies…seriously YUM! These will especially delicious in July when our Pacific Northwest weather realizes it’s summer and it gets HOT! I’ve always loved creamsicles. They are my moms favorite cold treat so I grew up with them always in the freezer, but I’ll be honest until this Orange Creamsicle smoothie recipe it had been a really long time since I had anything Creamsicle. Why? Have you read the ingredients on those packages in the store? Do you understand what you are reading? Yeah, me either! So we never buy them…oh if only we could make them!

Hello Orange Creamsicle Smoothy! This a super easy recipe with only six ingredients!

  • Greek Yogurt – 1 cup (plain) * This is very greek yogurt tasting so if you don’t like Greek yogurt which I know a lot of people don’t you can add regular yogurt or even Almond milk or Coconut milk
  • Orange Juice – 2 cups (organic or fresh squeezed)
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • Honey – 2 or 3 tablespoons
  • Ice – 3 or 4 cups (depending on the consistency you want you can always add more or less)
  • And the star Orange essential oil! {please note that I’m ONLY recommending Young Living}

Add everything to your blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Add to your favorite glass and enjoy {let sit for a minute or two} You could even add some whipped cream on top!
*Fun tip – leave out the ice and make yummy homemade frozen Orange Creamsicles!

I have multiple oily smoothie recipes but this is one of favorites!

Don’t forget to add it to your next order!

Already love Orange essential oil? How do you use it I would love to hear!
